Courtney's POV

The orphanage was a house. It was in Boston, and it was a decent size.

There were 10 of us. Six girls and four boys desperately hoping someone will walk through the door and take them to a place they can call home.

Jack has been here the longest. He's 15 and has been here since birth. If you want to meet the person who's got no hope, talk to Jack.

Six of us have never left the orphanage with a family once. Isabel, Jack, Mason, Aleks (girl), Millie and me. We were all 12 or older, me being the youngest, and have learned not many people are looking for teenagers.

The other 4 kids are either toddlers or babies. They come in and usually within a month have a place to call home. You shouldn't get too attached to the younger kids here. They'll leave right when you become friends.

The "mistress" was Miss Chin. She was sweet and let us call her Olivia and let the little kids call her mom. She was in her early 40's and was my mom to me. Even though she had to take care of ten kids, with only a few volunteers, she still tried to come to everyone's sports games or activities.

I was currently sitting in my room, trying to sketch in my notebook. Millie sat across the room talking to Aleks. Isabel, Aleks, Millie and I all shared a room. There were two bunk beds, a closet, 2 dressers, a lamp and a small bookshelf.

"Lisa got adopted today." I heard Millie say to Aleks while brushing her brown hair. Millie was pretty, she had a weird purple eyes and wavy hair. Aleks had dirty dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. I had brown hair and green eyes.

Now there were nine. I felt happy for Lisa, but a part of me felt sorrow. I sighed and stared out the window. The traffic from outside caused lots of noise, but I've gotten accustomed to it.

I wash appending of my thoughts when I saw Miss Chin at the door. She was smiling widely.

"There are 2 men here, and they want to see everyone from ages 10-15."

All of us launched up out of our positions and ran to where the boy's room was down the hall.

I opened it and said, "Alex! Mason! People might want to adopt us."

Jack smiled at us. He was too old for anyone to want to adopt him. At least that's what he said. "Good luck my friends." He said, smiling widely.

All of us almost sprinted down the stairs, but Miss Chin stopped us.

"One at a time. One at a time." She said.

Millie walked down first, and I shot her a smile. Then she walked back up the stairs and her smile was huge.

"You will not believe who is sitting on that couch." She said.

I had to go last, since we decided going from oldest to youngest would be fair. Finally once Aleks came up I slowly started to descend the stairs. My eyes were on my feet when I sat down on the couch opposite from the people sitting.

My head slowly tilted up and I automatically smiled widely. There, sitting on the couch, were Preston Arsement and Robert Latsky.
