You had waited all week to talk to Remus. And today was the day. He'd finally been discharged from the hospital wing yesterday, just before dinner, and you'd been quick to ask him if he wanted to meet in the library for a study session to catch up on the lessons he'd missed while away. Of course he said yes, and you were now on your way to the library.

You heart was beating in your throat, your mind racing. This could either go well, or horribly wrong. You had tried to gather the courage all week, but now that you were here, it seemed to slip away from you. You held tightly onto your books as you strode down the halls, getting closer to the library with each step.

Your breath hitched as you spotted Remus in the library, all focused on the parchment in front of him. For a moment, you wanted to turn around. To make up an excuse and go. However, you closed your eyes, took a deep breath and plastered an uncomfortable smile on your face to hide your nervousness.

"Hey, Rem." You greeted, sitting down on the chair farthest from him. "Hey N/n!" He gave a smile before returning to his parchment. For a few minutes, it was silent between you. Remus concentrated on his reading, while you were trying not to panic.

"I was wondering if you could help me with this DADA essay on nonverbal spells?" He looked up, sliding his parchment towards you. "What do you mean? I thought you were an expert on nonverbal spells?" You asked, glancing over his well-written essay. "What do you need my help for?"

"Nothing, really." He laughed awkwardly, brushing a strand of hair out of his face. "I just wanted us to talk. It felt weirdly silent..." You let out a laugh, agreeing with him. It was nice. Remus managed to make you feel comfortable again, as if you didn't have life-changing news for him.

"Actually," You began, focusing intently on the bookshelf behind him. "There's something I wanted to talk to you about." He nodded with a short, "Hm?" as a response.

"Can I see your soulmark?!" You blurted out, adrenaline pumping through your veins. "What?" He looked shocked for a moment, not knowing what to say. "Well..." You rubbed the back of your neck, having a hard time looking at him. "I was wondering if you could possibly show me your soulmark, since James told me about it and he says it looks like mine?" You rambled, unsure of what to do.

"I doubt that Y/n..." He scrunched up his nose, tensing up. "But I'm sure-" You began, but he didn't give you a chance to finish before interrupting. "Listen Y/n. I like you. I really do. But we aren't soulmates. Trust me."

He gave you an odd smile, gathering his things. "I need to go now... I promised Peter I'd tutor him in transfiguration."

He left in a hurry, leaving you behind, completely bewildered. Wow. James had said it would be hard to convince him, but you didn't think it would be that hard.

It didn't seem like Remus... At all...

This whole soulmate thing had begun to get on your nerves. Remus had been avoiding you, changing the subject and even coming up with ridiculous excuses to not be alone with you. It was frustrating. Finding your soulmate wasn't supposed to be this difficult. Since you'd been a kid, your parents had told you and James all about how they'd found each other. It was this romantic, love-at-first-sight-of-soulmark-thing. You'd always wanted that.

Right now, it was just you chasing after Remus like some lovesick idiot. You weren't even 100% sure if you were soulmates. All you had to go after, was James telling you that your soulmarks looked the same. How were you supposed to know if it was true? James was about as blind as a mole, so all you really had was your gut telling you that it felt right.

You walked down the corridors with hasteful steps. This time, Remus couldn't run. He couldn't hide. Madam Pomfrey would kill him if he as much as left the bed. You smiled confidently at yourself, before opening the doors to the hospital wing.

"Hello, Remus." You greeted, sitting down next to his bed.

He didn't answer.

"I know you're not asleep. Please just talk to me." You started, but you still didn't get a reply, making you sigh.

"Listen Rem. I'm not going to sit here and beg for you to give me a chance. So if you let me leave now, trust me, I won't come back. Ever." You threatened lightly, getting up from your stool.

You felt a sting of pain as you walked down towards the door again, still nothing from Remus. It hurt. But not as much as it hurt to chase after him unsuccessfully.

"Y/n..."

You turned around. Remus was sitting up in his bed, looking at you with puppy eyes. "Don't leave..." You screamed internally, before walking back to his bed.

"Can we at least just talk it through like adult human-beings?" You asked, giving him a stern look. He nodded silently.

"I know you don't believe that we're soulmates Rem. And to be completely honest, I don't know if I believe that either." You felt weird admitting it. These last couple of days, you'd been sure of it. But it was always in the back of your mind that James might be wrong. "But we have to at least give it a chance. I mean, would you rather just brush it off and maybe never find your one, than try this and be successful?"

"But we did already give it a chance Y/n." Remus argued, giving you a sad look. "We've already kissed. More than once. And our marks weren't silver when we got them. That's just how it is." You looked down, not knowing quite what to say.

Except you now knew what to do.

"Well ok. I totally see your point Rem." You got up quickly, trying to play it off cool. "We probably aren't meant to be. Ever. That's fine." You practically ran through the hospital wing, making one last stop at the door. "Bye Rem!" You sent him a huge smile, leaving him behind completely bewildered.

Once in your dorm, you hastily got out your quill and some parchment.

If Remus didn't want to give you a chance, you were at least going to tell him you knew he was a werewolf. You didn't want to do that at first. You'd planned on avoiding it until you knew for sure that you were soulmates. However, once you talked to Remus, you were reminded of what James had told you.

"When we tried to tell him he had a soulmate he kept talking about how he was a monster and didn't deserve a soulmate."

If his lycanthropy was the only thing standing in the way, you would make sure that Remus knew it wouldn't be a problem.

So you dipped your pen in the ink, and started scribbling down a couple of words.

Dear mum and dad,

How are you?

I write to you because I have a favour to ask of you. I know it is weird, but please do not get confused. I will explain it all once the school year is over.

Could you please send me a bag of lychees as soon as possible?

Love,

Y/n
