"Lily!" You practically kicked down the door, relieved to see that Lily was the only one in the room, before crashing into the wall on your way towards Lily's bed. "Great Goblins N/n! What is it?!" She sat up in bed immediately, just as panicked as you. "My- My soulmark-" You were very out of breath at the moment, seeing as you'd just run all the way up the stairs to your dorm. "It has -" You tried to calm down, at least long enough to take a proper breath. "It has changed!"
"Really? How?!" She gestured for you to sit down next to her, and you did, pulling up your sleeve to show her the mark. "When I got it, it was just a half moon, then it changed to 3/4 of a full moon!" You spoke rapidly, trying to explain everything. "At first, I thought it was the lighting or something, or maybe I'd even imagined it, but now I am 100% sure that it has changed!" Lily looked completely flabbergasted, as she tried to get out any words while frantically pointing to your mark. "It's a full moon..." She stated the obvious.
"Why do you think it changed?" You asked, still not able to comprehend anything. "Well... Has Lewis' mark changed?" Lily asked, trying to find a logic reason. "No..." You replied, fidgeting with your sleeve. "Lewis was actually the one who noticed it... We're not soulmates..."
"Oh..." Lily let out, taking your hand. "I'm so sorry Y/n." She gave you a sincere look, but to be honest, you didn't really care. "It's okay..." You admitted. "I'm actually fine with it. I mean he is a great person but he just wasn't... it?"
"Well I guess it's lucky that your mark changed?" She tried to joke a bit, and it actually made you chuckle lightly. "I just don't really know what to do now." You felt like giving up. If it was truly fate that you would find your soulmate, you'd obviously run into them at some point in your life. Right?
"Why don't we look at it objectively and logically." Lily reasoned, studying your mark closely. "Your mark has always been the moon. Right?" You nodded.
"The only thing that has changed is how much of the moon is visible."
"Mhm..." She looked thoughtful for a moment. "Maybe it hasn't really changed... Maybe it's still the same moon, which would mean it could be the moon's lunar phases?" You lit up at the suggestion. Of course that was what it was!
"Maybe my soulmate is affiliated with the moon in some way!"
"Maybe your soulmate is a werewolf!"
You went silent. Of course your soulmate was a werewolf! "I think you're right Lily!" You smiled, feeling one step closer to your soulmate already. "Is anyone at Hogwarts a werewolf though?"
You didn't know. As far as you were concerned, werewolves were allowed at Hogwarts, but there were no rumours about anyone actually being one. "How could they? There isn't room for a werewolf at Hogwarts... They'd have to go somewhere else during their transformations."
"That's it!" Lily lit up even more, a huge smile on her face. "They'd have to go out of Hogwarts once a month."
"Yeah, that's what I just said?" You commented, not following her.
"Who do we know, who mysteriously disappear once a month, go through a secret passage, only to reappear the next day?"
"The Marauders!" It felt amazing being so close to finding your soulmate. Right now it was all just assumptions and guesses, but you were getting somewhere now.
"But of course, they aren't all four werewolves." Lily reasoned. "We can rule out Sirius and James because they already have their soulmates." "Well that, and James is my brother. I would definitely know if he was a werewolf." You added, just to say something.
