With a smile you took your cup of tea from the waiter, watching them closely as they walked away to serve another table. Reaching towards the centre of the small cafe table, you snagged one of the sugar packets and poured it into your drink, stirring it slightly with your spoon. You looked around the area as you brought the drink to your lips."All right, what do you see?" Your best friend, Kate Bishop asked out over the comm piece in your ear.
"Standard beat cops. Small station. Quiet street. It's a good target." You replied, casually looking around to the police station across the street.
You had joined the younger team of avengers a few months ago, but this was your first real mission that wasn't a simple patrol around New York with Spider-Man. Your powers included energy manipulation and that terrified you because of the dangerous possibility's. Kate and you instantly clicked, becoming best friend. She helped to train you in many ways such as keeping an eye on your surroundings, focusing on weak points or just plain old fighting using your powers. The two of you became like sisters, working in sync on the battlefield or training room.
This mission was different than the normal ones though. Your team of young avengers had been split up to take on two separate missions. Your mission was to stop a mercenary from attacking the small police station.
"There's an ATM in the south corner, which means . . ." Kate trailed for you to finish her thoughts.
"Cameras."
"Both cross streets are one way."
"So, compromised escape routes." You and Kate went back and fourth, assessing the area like she had taught you to do before jumping into action, something her mentor Clint Barton taught her once.
"Means our guy doesn't care about being seen, he isn't afraid to make a mess on the way out. You see that Range Rover halfway up the block?"
"Yeah, the red one? It's cute." You smiled, taking another sip of your tea calmly.
"It's also bulletproof, which means private security, which means more guns, which means more headaches for somebody. Probably us." Yelena's voice cuts through your ear.
"You guys know I can move things with my mind, right?" You remind them all with some pride in your ability's.
"Looking over your shoulder needs to become second nature." She reminded you. You glanced over your shoulder to see Yelena sitting a few tables away wearing sunglasses as her disguise.
"Anybody ever tell you you're a little paranoid?" Peters voice cut through your ear, bringing a smile to your face.
"Not to my face. Why? Did you hear something?" She asked back playfully.
"Eyes on target, folks. This is the best lead we've had on Taskmaster in six months. I don't want to lose him." Kate reminded sharply from her position on a nearby roof, binoculars raised to scan the area.
"If he sees us coming that won't be a problem. He kind of hates us." Peter tells her with a shrug as he too was hiding on a roof. Car horns honked as people shouted from the market across the street.
"What's going on?" You asked out to anyone who would listen, wondering what the chaos was about and if it was time to jump into action yet.
"Relax, sit back and wait for our orders" Yelena reminded, people looking at you when you got suddenly panicked.
"That truck's loaded for max weight. And the driver's armed." Kate reported back to you all.
"What does that mean?"
