Louis POV
The pen scratched loudly at the paper that was on the clipboard I held. It was loud, it was annoying, and I wrote as quickly as my hand would let me. I wrote Harry’s information down, checked the boxes that applied to him, and gave every nurse that came out to grab someone else from the waiting room a hard look. No one else around us was pouring blood from their nose, but hey, we could wait for three hours, right? A snort worked it's way from my nostrils as I got up and pushed the clipboard back to the one who had checked us in. "What's the hold up?"
The nurse behind the computer looked surprised when the clipboard hit her hands, and she took a quick look around the waiting room as if she were searching for something she could use as an excuse. I rolled my eyes and stalked off after taking Harry's armband from the paper. Was I in a bad mood because of my father, or was it because I had blood from my boyfriend's nose staining my hands? Or maybe I'm hungry. I smirked and dropped back down into the seat next to Harry.
"Baby, calm down, it's okay." Beside me, Harry dropped the towel from his face and tried to smile. There was dried blood forming a crust around his nose and red stained most of the bottom portion of his face. A scarlet trickle still came down from both nostrils and I could see how his teeth were tinted from the amount of blood. "It's not that bad, Louis- ow!"
"Keep the towel under your nose." I shoved it back up, earning a groan from Harry when it hit a little too hard. A felt a tiny bit bad about that, but I didn't waste any part of my foul mood worrying about it. He tipped his head back and closed his eyes. The under portions of his eyes were already beginning to swell, but hadn't turned the bruised blue color. Sighing, I reached over to tie the armband around his wrist. I laid my hand on his leg after. It's not his fault, I reminded myself.
It was another thirty minutes before the automatic doors leading into the back opened and another nurse came out. "Styles," she called out, glancing around the room as she did. Her gaze found us when I stood and tugged Harry up by his arm. I read her name tag as we came up to her. Anna. The nurse greeted us with an easy smile and led us through a few halls. There was beeping of all kinds, like a hundred little monitors going off all around us. Most of the other doors were closed, some of their curtains drawn. I had a fear of looking into one of those rooms and seeing someone with a hole in their chest or their hand rotting off, so I kept my eyes trained on the back of Anna's head. Eventually, we were brought into a room that read T-14. Trauma room 14.
Anna sat Harry on the bed and went on to take a set of vitals. I knew because the same thing had been done to me in my previous visits. I watched the cuff inflate around his arm, then looked at Anna. It appeared that she was just staring at the monitor, but from the corner of her eye, I knew she was watching his chest to count how many breaths he was taking. I counted with her for a full minute. Eight, nine, ten… seventeen. Seventeen breaths in one minute. I could not see what she typed into his chart, but I knew I wasn't wrong.
"So, what happened to you, Harry?" Anna asked when she took the cuff from around his arm. Her smile was kind.
"I got what I deserved," Harry chuckled, ignoring the glare I sent his way.
"That's not funny," I shook my head and looked at the nurse. "My dad kind of hit him. It's been bleeding for about an hour."
Harry's response amused Anna, I could see her fighting a smile. "I see." She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and typed something else into the computer before standing. "Okay, let me have that towel and see what we're working with." Anna grabbed some gloves before peeling the bloody towel away from Harry's face. I hadn't noticed it before, but the bridge of his nose had a noticeable spot where it wasn't lined up right, just in the center where it should have been straight. It was still bleeding a little. Anna nudged the spot and Harry flinched.
