"Zayn, you have to come with me to the Ritozza, that coffee shop that's off of Maine Street."
I rolled my eyes at Niall. Since the start of the day, he had been bugging me nonstop about going to the place. There were so many others in town that were way better, and I knew it. I had personally gone to every one of them and tested a few coffee drinks, iced and hot, and a lot of the snacks they had to offer. I had gone to the Ritozza- and had been rudely corrected by one of the baristas when I had pronounced the name wrong- and I wasn't very impressed. It's Ri-toe-za, not Ri-tah-za.
"Why, Niall? There's one two minutes from here."
It wasn't like I minded going out, but I wasn't the type to go a hundred places in a week. I was meeting Louis for lunch tomorrow and going out today, for something that really wasn't that important, didn't sound fun. Niall wasn't one to take no for an answer though.
A deep, dramatic sigh came from the couch where Niall was sitting, his legs stretched out to the coffee table in front of him. I was in the kitchen, fixing a glass of iced water for myself. I always liked coming to Niall's apartment. It was two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a small kitchen but it was too much space for a single person. Niall kept it clean and always had a few candles burning that filled the apartment with the scent of cinnamon and apples.
"Zayn, for once, can you please just do something without looking between the lines? Have a little fun. I've never taken you somewhere where something bad has happened, have I?"
If anyone knew me, and I mean really knew me, they would have known that Zayn Malik does not take risks. My mind deems it wrong and my body fills with anxiety that makes the tips of my fingers tremble. I don't try new things, but it was not fear of failure that held me back. I was content, fine where I was so why go out of my way to get out of my comfort zone? It wasn't me.
Niall had a point though. I knew I was safe with him wherever we went. Our town wasn't like the big cities, but it had its moments. I'd gone to a club with Niall once just outside of the city limits. When we got there, there was a line of people outside smoking. A cloud had hung over them and the two of us had had the unfortunate pleasure of having to pass through it. Unfiltered, raw cigarettes and the stench of marijuana filled my senses simultaneously and I had gone inside with a coughing fit rattling my ribcage and lungs.
The place was sketchy and I had stuck as close to Niall as I could. Club scenes weren't really my thing, I couldn't dance to save my life and I know I cock-blocked my friend more than once that night.
Niall had darted off, leaving me at the bar with the bartender who always had something to say. I had found him slinking off towards the back, a tipsy redhead clinging to his torso and stumbling along with him. I didn't know what they were saying, but I had cleared my throat, much to Niall's dismay, and the girl had just wandered off, the contents of her half empty drink sloshing around the rim of the glass. After that, I had interrupted him in the men's stall with a nudge to door that revealed a younger guy on his knees. Niall had fistfuls of his hair and I had seen his eyes roll back.
"Not bad. Mentally scarring, yes." I had done a good job of never seeing my friends naked or catching them in the act. Until that day, of course. The base of Niall's manhood and the dark blond wisps around it were etched into my memory.
