I awoke to the dripping of some sort of liquid on my forehead. My chest felt tight but I didn’t seem to be trapped anymore. Opening my eyes, I could see that I was lying on my back facing the ceiling. The vines didn’t seem to be around anymore, and I was now free to move. I sat up and saw Martyn lying on the floor, so I crawled over to him. Gently tapping him on the face, I managed to awake him, bolting upright.
“What the heck just happened?” He asked. He got up and reached his arm out to me, helping me get back onto my feet.
“I don’t really know, there were these weird electrical vine things that almost killed us both and-” I was cut off by the desperate gasping of something behind the bars.
The vines that once concealed whatever was behind the bars now ceased to exist, so we ran up to them and saw a person curled up on the floor. Upon closer inspection, I realised that this was Toby, obviously struggling to breathe. Martyn opened the door of the cell and went over to Toby, picking him up and running back out again.
“We need to get him somewhere where he can get some sort of medical attention.” He said, and made his way out the door. I was left in the room, slightly taken aback, and a bit bewildered by the sudden rush to leave. Eventually, my senses snapped back and I picked up the sword, which was now lying next to the cage, up, and made my way out the door and up the stairs.
Once I reached the top, I ran out of the building to see Martyn climbing over the fence in the distance. I followed him, jumping over the fence and entered the forest that lay behind it. Before long, I had managed to lose track of them and I was lost. I was about to start aimlessly wandering around when an unnaturally strong gust of wind blew through the forest, and the trees lent in a certain direction. Deciding this was the best hope I had, I put all my faith into this and began running in the direction the trees were going.
After a while I came out of the thick woodland and was greeted by three small wooden huts and the large white building I had seen before. It was a lot bigger than I originally thought it was, and had the face of someone with a red beard and a Viking helmet in lights on the front of the building. I started walking a bit closer until I saw a tall man accompanied by an incredibly short one, run out of the building towards the huts.
“Is Martyn here?” I shouted towards them, and the tall one simply nodded at me before disappearing into the shed. The little one came over to me, only just reaching my ribs, which still isn’t that much taking into consideration I’m only 5ft 2.
“You’re looking for Toby aren’t you?” He asked, with a surprisingly different voice to what I was expecting. I nodded and he led me into the shed that his companion had disappeared into moments before. Once we got inside, I was met by Martyn, the tall man and someone else standing over a bed. There was a lot of noise and commotion, and I couldn’t see nor hear what was going on, and any attempts I made at trying to communicate were ignored. I looked down at the small guy, and he seemed to be the only one who got the hint, and he went over to his friend and tugged on his shirt.
“Simon can’t you see that I’m a bit busy now?” The tall one said, and then turned round, suddenly noticing me. “Oh! I’m sorry; do you want to come through?” He said, motioning towards another room. I smiled and nodded towards him, and walked through the doorway. In this room, there were two beds and a couple of chests. Simon had followed me through and sat down on one of the beds.
“I think your friend is going to be alright, he’s in capable hands. Well, if you count a spaceman, a scientist and a weird tree incarnate as capable hands, he should be okay.” He said, laughing. I smiled too.
“We haven’t met before have we? I’m Pluto, in case you haven’t already found out one way or another…” I said, holding my hand out.
“My name’s Honeydew, you can call me Simon though, and in case you hadn’t guessed yet, I am a dwarf. It sounds like such a weird paring doesn’t it, a spaceman and a dwarf?” He said, shaking my hand. “This spaceman does have a name by the way, its Xephos. Oh, and the scientist’s name is Lalna-” He continued, before being cut off by me abruptly pulling my hand away.
“Lalna?” I spluttered, and he hesitantly nodded in confusion. “I, uh, I need to take a walk.” I said, struggling to get the words out. Walking backward, my back hit another door behind me and I opened it and ran out into the darkness of the night.
I looked around for a place I could sit down and think when I stumbled across a river. I sat down on the sand, facing out at the beautiful landscape in front of me. It was still terrifying me that I unknowingly walked past someone that once tried to kill me; however it more concerned me that he was attempting to aid Martyn and Xephos in keeping Toby alive.
I turned around and saw the figures of what I assumed to be Simon and Xephos, the latter of which’s eyes seemed to glow a cyan colour. I hoped that this meant that Toby was alive and well. After a while, raindrops started to fall around me, and looking up, I could see a large dark cloud that had apparently brought a storm with it. Sighing, I stood up, and intended to return to the shed, when I saw, across the river, something fall to the ground.
