Toby pulled me though a thick mangle of bushes until we reached a large body of water that looked almost endless. Not seeing an end to the stretch of water made me feel even sicker than I already did. By now my entire body was aching and arm was in excruciating pain. Toby let go of my hand and began to run down the shoreline, so my legs took the opportunity to give way and I collapsed onto the sand. Luckily I landed on my non-damaged arm, and I rolled onto my back and was hit by the blinding sun.

I forced shut my eyelids and lay on the soft, warm grains of sand and tried to focus on something other than pain. The waves gently crashing onto the shore was somewhat relaxing, but in the distance, the fighting was still audible. Sighing, I relaxed my eyes a bit and tried to focus on the waves.

After a few minutes, I head something quite large being dragged along the sand. Shifting my head slightly, I half opened one of my eyes and saw Toby dragging a small wooden boat towards my direction. He set it down a few metres from me and walked over to me.

“Come on, we need to go.” He told me, and offered an arm to me, but my limbs had decided to completely give up on me. I shook my head slightly and closed my eyes. I heard a sigh come from Toby when suddenly I felt something wrap around my back and legs which then lifted me off the sand.

Quickly, I opened my eyes and realised that Toby was now carrying me to the boat. It wasn’t the least painful journey, but it still got me to the boat. He placed me down at the back of the boat and jumped out again. The boat began to move forward and once it had entered the water I felt Toby give it one more big push before his footsteps were replaced my loud splashing. Once he had caught up to the boat he grabbed the side and flung himself in.

Once the boat was fully in the water and had begun moving further into the ocean depths, Toby shuffled towards me and picked up my arm. He felt it for a minute, whilst I tried to focus on something other than the pain. Eventually, he spoke.

“I don’t think it’s broken, don’t worry. It’s probably just badly bruised, if you leave it a few days it should heal on its own.” He said, and let go of my arm, smiling. Smiling back, I sat up and turned around to face the direction in which we came.

“What happened over there?” I asked, turning back round. Toby sighed and closed his eyes.

“Ridge was talking to you, wasn’t he?” He asked, to which I nodded. “Martyn was… concerned that he was talking to you about a certain deal that they made. He didn’t want you knowing about what the deal was. I don’t even know what it is, and I’ve been friends with him for years now.”

I sighed and looked out to the endless blue sea.

“Why did we leave though?” I asked.

“You could have died in there. It’s not fun to mess with an angry demigod or an earth spirit, let alone both of them together. Even when they stop fighting, Martyn won’t be a happy bunny, it’ll be best to leave him for a bit. Besides, I want to go see Sparkles*.  I think you could become good friends with him and the rest of the band, they’re really nice people!” He said. I nodded and I was suddenly hit with tiredness from everything that happened, so I curled up in the boat and closed my eyes, letting the gentle rocking of the boat on the waves lull me to sleep.

I awoke to a large jolt which rocked to boat a lot. Bolting upright, I realised that we had reached land. I also realised that something just fell of me, which I recognised as Toby’s hoodie. He sat up too, looking tired and I looked at him in a mixture of confusion and slight gratitude, as I wasn’t cold.

“You started shivering in your sleep, you looked very cold!” He replied, grinning. Jumping out the boat, he pulled it slightly more inland where I too climbed out. Once I was on the sand, I picked his hoodie up and offered it back to him.

“Nah, it’s fine, you wear it. I’m boiling hot anyway.” He said, shaking his head. I took the opportunity to no longer be cold and put the hoodie on. Whilst I was doing this, Toby got the sword and the sheath and slung it on, and we began walking inland.
