It's Gonna Be Okay

So I've watched five feet apart and I didn't like the ending. It was too sad. So I rewrote it with a few changes and gave Cady and Janis a happy ending. Enjoy.

Disclaimer: I don't know ANYTHING about CF or lung transplants. I only know the things which were portrayed in the movie and the little things I've googled, so please don't hate me. If you or your friend are going through a situation like this I am so sorry and I hope it's going to get better.

Cady always knew it would be hard. Hard to be with someone who could die any day. Loving someone who's incurably sick. But Cady couldn't help it.

She fell head over heels in love with her girlfriend as soon as she saw her outside of a café one day, absentmindedly drawing into her sketchbook. She didn't even take notice of her portable oxygen and the nose cannula. She was too mesmerized by her beautiful thick mane of brown hair, bleached at the ends, her beautiful long and perfectly shaped legs which were crossed, making her seem even more elegant. And then she looked up. Cady instantly got lost in her gorgeous, dark chocolate brown eyes, perfectly framed with a black eyeliner. It was impossible not to stare at this gorgeous human being.

But that backfired very quickly as the girl noticed that Cady was staring at her. She looked away shyly and sadly almost as if she was used to being stared at, but not in a good way. Only then Cady also noticed the redness around her eyes and her pale skin. It didn't make her any less beautiful but Cady immediately felt bad.

She started to take a few steps into the girls direction, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to stare at you." she apologized, as her cheeks flushed a little out of embarrassment.

"S'Okay no worries." she smiled focusing on her sketchbook again. "I'm used to it."

"No really. That was dumb.. it's just- you're really pretty.."

The girl stopped in her tracks at first, almost as if she was surprised by Cadys statement. But then she looked up at her with a little grin. "Well that's a new one."

Cady smiled back at her, as the girl pushed out a stool with her foot, on the other side of the table. "Wanna sit?"

And that was the beginning of the most beautiful but also most terrifying relationship Cady has ever been in. She was grateful for every moment with Janis. But also scared that it would be the very last. Since she was with her she was more aware how precious the little things in a relationship are.

How special a little kiss on the forehead could be, how calming it could be when someone softly combed through your hair, how much better it was to sometimes sit in easy silence and how amazing it really felt like falling asleep while listening to your loved ones heartbeat. It was much more intimate than any other relationship Cady has ever had, despite the fact that they never even really kissed before.

That was one of the things Janis was scared of. The danger that comes with something as simple as a kiss. And Cady understood. Even a sore throat or a cold could be fatal for Janis on bad days which is why she always triple checked if she had any symptoms of being sick just to minimize the risk of Janis catching anything from her. They didn't risk it. And Cady couldn't care less, because the connection she shared with Janis was enough.

But that also made Janis' rough days even more unbearable than they already were. Every time Janis was in pain, went into a big coughing fit, every time Cady held her hair while she was doing her treatments coughing out the mucus out of her lungs, it was simply heartbreaking. Still she always held her when she cried, always told her that she loved her when she doubted herself, always sang her favorite song to her when she's in pain and simply was with her every time she could. She even befriended her best friend Damian who supported them both this whole time. Who was strong for both of them.
