Part 40: Choices

Logan sighed as he walked down to the beach, trying his best to ignore what he'd just been told. He didn't have time to worry about it at the moment, all that mattered now was that Cloud had a good birthday.

He smiled at his friends who were splashing water at his son who was giggling and splashing them back.

"Da- Logan!! Look! It's water! It's so salty!" Cloud shouted as he tried to scoop up some water. Jeans eyes widened at the boy before they looked up to Logan who was trying his best to suppress a smile.

"Oh yeah? Do you think I could make some food out of it? Hmm? Maybe we should have it for dinner?" Logan teased out causing Cloud to stick his tongue out at the boy. Logan chuckled as he walked closer to them, taking his shoes off and taking a step into the water.

"So, did ya ask them?" Logan asked Cloud who shook his head before he splashed some water on Logan's leg.

"Well, go on." Logan said, gesturing to the three friends. Cloud nodded, turning to the three family members.

"Would uhm... would you wanna come over tomorrow or my birthday?!" Cloud asked, his voice filled with both worry and excitement. Jean smirked at his two friends before looking at Logan who nodded.

"Well, I don't see why we couldn't make it!" Jean answered for them causing Cloud to jump in joy. Logan smiled before he heard his name being called. Logan quirked an eyebrow, turning back to see who was calling his name and much to his surprise, a boy with long brown hair was sitting there waiting for him. Logan's jaw clenched as he saw Eren standing there, looking slightly worried about the boy.

"Do you want me to tell him to fu-" Jean was saying before Logan glared at him, looking down at Cloud. Jean's eyes widened in realization before he continued.

"To leave?" Jean finished causing Logan to sigh and shake his head, he figured now was as good as any time would be to confront the boy.

"Just watch Cloud for me, yeah?" Logan said, walking up the small dune and towards the boy. He reached him relatively fast, stopping a few feet away.

"Listen uh- could we talk about last month?" Eren asked, scratching the back of his neck. Logan sighed, his heart still broken from the that night.

"There's nothing to talk about, Eren." Logan bluntly said, trying to close his heart to the boy. Eren sighed, looking into Logan's eyes. Logan felt the green eyes begin to pry the walls back apart before Logan closed his eyes, sighing.

"I'm sorry if I hurt you." Eren stated causing Logan to shake his head.

"Just- Don't, yeah? You told me over a year ago you didn't love me anymore. It's my own damn fault for thinking there was still a chance." Logan said, looking down at his feet, studying every single thing on the ground so he wouldn't be tempted to look up at the boy.

"I never said that." Eren simply responded causing Logan to shake his head and clench his jaw.

"I thought I explained that night last mon-" Eren started before he was cut of by Logan whipping his head up in anger.

"What? You mean that night that you slept with me then just disappeared? You mean that night right? You know that was the first time I'd ever done that with anyone? I thought that maybe, just maybe you'd changed your mind Eren. I know I shouldn't have but I got my hopes up, I thought that you had wanted to get back together, hell, maybe you'd even missed me! But guess what? You didn't." Logan shouted, anger lacing every word.

"I never said I didn't mis-" Eren stated, looking down at the ground to try to hide his anger and embarrassment.

"YES EREN! You did! You said it by LEAVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. Then, I decided to give you one more chance after that, you know why I did Eren?" Logan asked, folding his arms across his chest. Eren didn't respond, he just stared at the ground, taking in all of the words.
