A Beacon of Hope

I still think about the conversation we had then, of him cry unseen tears toward the end. "If I am gone then who is going to remember him! They won't know or love him the way I did!" It was painful to think about. The man he once loved was gone and he himself would disappear shortly, the "them" that had existed was doomed to die.

     I chewed slowly on the pancakes, the buttery pastry was quite the filling breakfast. Boisterous laughter filled the dining room with  jokes unheard.  I looked up to see the sisters poking at Leo's metallic body only to be reprimanded by their father.  A curt knock sounded at the door, and not waiting for an answer it opened. A pale man entered, he stood at a little over 6 feet, looking disheveled and weary.  A slight stumble put his sobriety in question as he made his way into the room.

" I hope this is good Tai, you usually don't ask for favors, let alone one this big."  The stranger stated his gruff voice was one that seemed to match his attire. 

"Trust me it's big" The blond countered "This is the girls' uncle, my friend and brother-in-law: Qrow" 

     I gave a small wave at the man as he finally recognized the presence of the four new people in the room. Eyeing the others a bit more than me. I gave an awkward chuckle to try and cut the tension and proceeded to introduce my fireteam. 

"So you want them to meet him in hopes that he can do something about their peculiar situation?"

"Yeah, sorry about all the trouble" 

"It's fine let's just get this over with. So what's the situation?"

"Well to make a long story short, we have robot problems " 

     The silence after loud, we all watched as the cogs turned in the mans head.  He inhaled to speak, only to leave his mouth open. Yang snickered, while Ruby looked back and forth between her uncle and guest. 

"Yeah that how I reacted at first as well" Tai snorted

"Robots are trying taking over... And you don't have a kill code or button for that, because that's a irresponsibility on your part then." 

"Well...There is a bit more to the Vex then that.." I trailed "They are kind of older then the Universe itself." 

"Its a lot to try and talk about here" Wolf put in. 

"Yeah, yeah it might be better to explain all at once so I guess we better get going" The man said dryly. 

     The fireteam glanced around at each other before getting up to follow the man. He made a quick call on his "Scroll" as one of the girls informed me, and walked us out to a ship. Selina proceeded to give out brief hugs and waved goodbye to the first people we met on our long stay here.   

 "Hey Mike"

"Hey man" the pilot  replied.

     We boarded the ship and awaited to be briefed on the situation. Qrow told us that he was going to chat with the pilot about where to take us, and moved to the cockpit. 

"Remember," I commanded, my words a small wispier in the muffled rumbling of the shuttle "Ghost and resurrections are put on the need-to-know basis"

"But, why?" 

"Not only would it put them at risk it makes us vulnerable, so it is in our best interest to keep it under wraps" Wolf interjected. 

     No sooner had he finished the sentence, Qrow came to the back to tell us about our destination. 

"We are going to Beacon Academy to talk to a old friend of mine, he should be able to help you out in some kind of way, though I don't fully trust you yet" 

     Leo let out a small chuckle, while I gave him a small jab in the ribs. It wasn't long of a wait until the shuttle came upon a tall, castle like building on a cliff.  It must be the school.  We all stayed silent as we walk into the building and into an elevator.  I took a deep breath, let out a sigh and stepped out, and into the office. There were window behind the desk, it seemed to styled with a clock motif as there were cogs quietly turning above. Even the floor looked like an analog clock, without the hands.  A white haired man stood with his back turned to us behind the desk. 

"Hey, " The girls' uncle called out, taking a flask out of his pocket. Since when did he have that, and is now a good time to drink before an important discussion?  I give him a passing glance before, focusing my attention back on the silver haired man that had turned to look at us. A coffee mug in his hands, which he took a slow sip from. 

" These are the guys that I called you about, sorry for the trouble" He finished after the swig. 

     He gave us a look over, pausing at Leo-3 for a second longer then the rest of us. After a brief silence, the ding of the elevator rang sharp in the room. Turning a blonde woman (who looked particularly annoyed with the man behind her) exited it followed by a greying man. They both walked to stand next to the man with glasses.

"Sorry about the short notice" The silver haired man apologized  " I'm Ozpin, that is Glynda Goodwitch, James Ironwood, and I assume you know Qrow Branwen" 

     Each person gave a short nod upon introduction, except for Qrow who was currently taking a long sip from the flask. 

"I'm Cara Melly, " I say, turning to gesture to each member of the team when mentioned "Leo-3, Selina, and Wolf " 

"What does the 3 stand for?" Qrow questioned 

"Its the number of resets I have gone through" 

"Getting back on topic..." Ironwood chimed in, giving a wary look at Branwen "Can you please explain what you meant by 'killer robots are trying to take over'" 

My team all turned to me, I glanced around confused. "Why me?" 

"Well you are a warlock" Selina stated.

"Yeah, and I bet you know more about the Vex then the rest of us," Leo added nodding "Well, definitely more then me"  

Wolf just shrugged. With a sigh I gave a small pout before turning to the group before us. 

"Where to start...well I guess the beginning is as good as any"

Sorry for taking so long on the update, as some of you may know I rewrote this chapter many times. Feel free to ask questions, and comment. I'd love to chat about this work with you guys. I also plan on renaming it (due to the title being so long) so please drop a suggestion. And as always...
