Grace was almost six by now, she was Mikeys and Rays only child. They loved their little girl more than anything in the world; they had movie nights on Saturdays, family game night on Friday after Grace finished school for the day, they had the perfect little family they wanted.
But Grace had a secret, she really wanted a baby sister or brother. She had wanted one since her cousin Bandit got her twin sisters, and Grace was so jealous. She loved her baby cousins, but she wanted her own brother or sister.
"Mama?" Grace spoke, as her and her mom played with Barbie dolls. Mikey loved playing with his little girl, Ray was working and so he didn't want Grace to get bored or lonely.
"Yeah hun?"
"How did uncle Gee get the twins?"
Mikey bit his lip, eyes wide behind his thin framed glasses. Oh God, the question. Grace was far too young to know how people get babies, she still believed in Santa Claus!
"Uhm...The storks! Uncle Gee-"
"It wasn't the storks, silly goose! Uncle Gee had the twins in his tummy, he didn't get them from the storks! How did they get there? Why did they have to be in there?"
Of course, Grace was at that age where she would question everything. She was a kid with a wild imagination, lots of curiosity, she wanted to know how things happened and why things were the way they were.
"Its hard to explain, Gracie."
"I wanna know!"
"Uncle Frank and uncle Gee decided they wanted to have more babies! A-And...Well they made them!"
She furrowed her eyebrows, "But how did they make them?"
Mikey was dreading these kind of conversations. He also wondered why Grace was so curious about it too. He and Ray spoke about how they should talk about this to a six year old, and they said they'd talk about it if she brought the topic up. Oh God, Ray would totally know what to say right now.
"Well, what do you think? How do you think babies are made?"
"Umm...I just know that uncle Gee had two babies in his tummy, but how did they get there?"
"Well...I...He and uncle Frank wanted to have more babies than just Bands. And so they had a talk and decided they wanted another one. They didn't expect to have two."
"Nonono, i know that, mommy. But how did they get there?"
"When mommies and daddies want to have babies, they have to do something special in private. Its not for children to do, just adults."
"So uncle Gee and Frank did the special thing? Two times for two babies?"
Boy, Mikey was confused. He was even confusing himself. But he smiled and continued, he knew this time would come around eventually, the sex talk. He shouldn't use words she'll end up repeating, not until shes a little older. Ray said to explain gently what happens.
"No. So when uncle Gee and Frank decided to have a baby and did the special thing, the-"
"Whats the special thing called?"
"Its called...sex...Don't repeat that word at school, missy. When they did it, Frankie put something special into Gee-"
"He put the babies in?"
Mikey knew he wasn't explaining this in the best way, but he had never really had to have the talk. Bandit didn't ask Gerard or Frank about it yet, otherwise Mikey would ask them for advice.
