It wasn't strange that Gerard had a weird sleeping schedule, Frank knew. The tattooed male remembered when they were in high school - the bags under Gerard's eyes because he stayed up late listening to music while he lost himself in his art. Frank thought nothing of it. Heck, this meant Gerard was always up and if and when the shorter wanted to, he could escape his home and try to convince Mikey to let him climb into his window.
Of course, their parents thought their relationship was the worst for one reason only: their obsession over each other. After agreeing to become boyfriends, Gerard spent his nights drawing Frank. Donna threatened to hide all of her eldest son's art supplies, but she knew that was wrong and Gerard would obtain what he needed to draw no matter what. Donald and Donna tried lecturing their son to go to sleep, but it was futile. Gerard did sleep sometimes, but his mind was solely on his short boyfriend.
Things weren't looking any better at the Iero's. His dad lived elsewhere, so Frank mostly got a scolding from his mom, Linda. When she found out Frank was sneaking out of the house to go to Gerard's, she started changing the locks of the doors and windows. Sad to say, Frank picked up the trick on how to pick locks. Linda stopped trying after a month of her son's craziness. She wasn't going to spend anymore money changing the locks when the final result would be Frank picking them.
The Ways and Linda thought the pair were cute together (reckless too) and figured it would be a sweet high school experience for them too. They believed high school relationships were a fifty-fifty shot of lasting. Neither realized that they were on the winning side of that probability because a year after the boys graduated, Frank was on one knee at one of Gerard's gallery shows he was hosting some of his artwork in. It was sweet and right then and there everyone knew Frank Iero and Gerard Way were meant to be.
Frank wished that Gerard would have stopped with the weird sleeping schedules so he could rest. His body would end up shutting down if he chose not to. It wasn't easy when his husband was so accustomed to it though. It would have been fine if they had nothing to worry about. Frank eyed the baby bump on his husband and knew that it was best that Gerard get all the rest he needed.
"Babe...get some sleep." Frank mumbled sleepily, his eyelids half open. He loved watching Gerard draw, but he was tempted to pull away the sketchpad and lock it away if it meant his husband would get sleep.
Gerard whined lightly. "Frankie...I'm in the zone right now." Frank had heard that a thousand times ever since he met Gerard. His beautiful tiny-toothed husband was always in the zone when it came to his drawings.
Frank groggily sat up. He was partially curious on what Gerard was spending his time drawing. It was going to be another beautiful masterpiece he would add to his collection of masterpieces. When he tried to take a peek at the sketchpad, Gerard noticed. The pregnant man gasped and moved the sketchpad so Frank could not see it.
"I want to see it, Gee." Frank whined. There were those times when Gerard would keep his drawings to himself because it was a surprise. Once, Gerard did a whole set of portraits of Frank as an anniversary gift.
"No! I want it to be a surprise." Gerard declared.
Frank raised an eyebrow. "Is it a gift for me?" Gerard shook his head "no". Frank could not understand why he could not see the drawing then. "Well, then I can see it then, babe."
"It's for the baby...or well, it has to do with the baby." Gerard explained, still hiding his sketchpad so Frank could get nowhere near it and take a peek.
Frank shrugged. "Okay, so why can't I see it?"
"It's not done." Gerard said defensively.
Frank rolled his eyes. "You should get some rest, Gee. I know you're used to staying up, but you need to rest, babe. For you and the baby." He placed a hand on the small baby bump on his husband.
Frank felt like this was what paradise was. He got the opportunity to marry the love of his life and now they were expecting a little bundle of joy together. He could reminisce all the memories he has had with Gerard. The first time they met. When they agreed to start dating. The thousands of times he would successfully convince Mikey to let him sneak into the house through his window. Frank loved Gerard and Gerard loved Frank. They were soulmates, that was for certain. If Heaven existed, he was living it.
"Don't make me take away the sketchpad, babe." Frank pecked Gerard's cheek.
Gerard gasped. "No! It's mine." He pointed his pencil at Frank as if it were a sword. "Do not kidnap my sketchpad."
Frank smirked. "I won't if you promise me you'll show me what you're drawing and go to sleep."
"I could always hide it somewhere where you won't find it." Gerard threatened.
"Mikey, Ray, Grace and I will find it and hide it from you! You'll never be able to find it. I'll give it back to you when baby Iero is born." Frank explained with a devilish smirk.
Gerard hummed for a moment before setting his pencil down. "Fine." He scooted closer to his husband and laid his sketchpad out on his lap for Frank to see. "This is what I was thinking."
Frank took the sketchpad in his hands and examined the drawing. Gerard was four months pregnant, so they were taking their time with the whole nursery. Even though he had added no color, Gerard wrote on the side of every drawn item what color he was thinking.
The crib would be a dark brown shade and the rails could not be adjusted to go down like other cribs might. There would be a lilac-colored bookshelf right underneath the window that would hold several books to read to the baby. The changing table was near the bookshelf.
There would be black shelf on the wall where several stuffed animals would rest upon. Gerard had drawn some animals on top of the shelf to signify the stuffed toys. On the other side of the bookshelf would be a little white treasure chest toy box where other toys would go. The wall near to the door would be a light brown dresser where the baby's clothes would be.
There was more stuff Gerard wanted to add, Frank could tell based on something else he was drawing on the door of the closest. They weren't in a rush to be completely ready, but Frank was excited to see Gerard's vision come true.
Frank turned to Gerard and kissed him. "It looks amazing, Gee." He smirked when his husband blushed. "I can't wait to it all in real life."
Gerard took back his sketchpad. "Oh Frankie, there's still time." He lifted his pencil to continue drawing when he saw Frank snatch it from him. "Hey! I was-"
"No, no, no." Frank interjected and placed the pencil in the drawer of his nightstand. "You promised me you'd get some sleep."
Gerard pouted. "But Frankie-"
"No buts, Gee! You're gonna be tired in the morning either way." Frank was glad that Gerard was going to be focusing on staying home taking care of himself. Frank would rather his husband be careful. "Come on, let's cuddle! You love cuddles."
Frank had a point, Gerard realized. He did love snuggling. He placed his sketchpad on top of his nightstand and snuggled close to his husband. Frank happily wrapped his arms around Gerard close and tight.
With his eyes closed, Frank whispered. "I love you, Gee."
"I..." Gerard yawned. "Logr ya too, Frankie..." Frank opened his eyes to see Gerard falling asleep. He let one of his hands touch the baby bump. "I love you too, baby." He closed his eyes and snuggled closer to Gerard.
He was just thankful Gerard finally decided to go sleep.
