Nneoma's POV
It's been three hours since Dele stormed out of the ward with my mom. I'm really bored and to make matters worse I can't find my phone. I'm sure Dele and my mom went with theirs too. Huh! Maybe I should try stepping out for a bit. I tried to but then I realized I had an IV on. I maneuvered my way out of the bed only to be hit by a cold wind from behind. I turned to see that the entire bed had been soaked with blood.
Oh my God!!
" Helppppp!!!" , I shouted frantically
"Somebody help me !!!" I felt the tears drop from my eyes . There was no bell I could ring to get to the nurses quarters . Stupid Nigerian hospitals. I suddenly felt dizzy. My vision became spotted. Last thing I can remember was the sound of running feet coming towards me just in time to catch me fall.******
Pain. That was the first thing I felt. It reminded me that I was indeed alive and not dead. Yet. Then it became sharp. Just when I was about to raise an alarm my mom ran to me.
"Ndo oh. Ada. (Take it easy my daughter) It's ok oh?! You'll be ok maka chineke (In God's name)" ,she said . She looked so tired and worn out. I'm sure she lacked rest.
"Mama what happened?"
"The nurses heard you shout out for help. So they came to your rescue. You passed out due to the heavy bleeding. The doctors ran a few tests on you. The results will soon be out and you'll be just fine oh!"
"Mama I'm sorry " I told her after a moment of silence
"What for ?"
"For putting you through so much stress. I'm sorry for being a bur..."
"Mba mba mba. (No no no) You can never be a burden my darling", she hushed me, "my bekhe, ( Whiteman) my life. Ada you will never be a burden. This will pass. Ok? Wipe your tears" She moved to clean my tears face.
The doctors came a few moments later. It was morning by now. I'm sure around 5 am. I couldn't find Dele. And I was too shy to ask my mom after him. I guess she noticed my frown because she whispered that he was just outside. I was shocked and worried . He should have gone home and rested he must be so tired. Why would he even choose to go through all these trouble. He's going to end up hurt. I don't want that!
"Miss. Akunna good morning"
"Good Morning doctor"
"And how are you feeling?"
"Like a champion" I said smiling sheepishly . For some reason I felt optimistic.
He laughed . "I'm sure you are" he turned to my mom then
"I have news Mrs. Akunna"
"Good news or bad news doctor?"
"Just news ma" he said " you see your daughter is already at stage 3 of her leukemia. That's why she keeps having these episodes. Her chemotherapy seemed to have just for a few months. Her cells are dying rapidly. I suggest we do dialysis for her blood. This way she can live a healthier life".
"Healthier life?" I snickered "for how long doctor? Two weeks? Three months? One year?? How long?"
" Nneoma we have to be hopeful. It's not the end of the world"
"It feels like it doc. It really does"
