I'm back, don't ask any questions. Shut up, shush.
Shizuo went out of his apartment, looking for any potential job listings. They all seemed simple enough, and Shizuo thought he could apply until he was hit with multiple requirements. Like needing to have at least 3 years of experience on a program he had never heard of.
Shizuo sighed. He had tried out for countless establishments, but they all said no because of his criminal record, even if Shizuo was able to get a pardon. Shizuo wasn't sure what he was expecting, but he came out completely empty. He had no resume, no records, absolutely nothing. It made sense no one chose to hire him.
While Shizuo was wandering around, thinking of other options, he remembered he had his phone. Maybe he could ask some advice from someone online.
'I want to find a job, but I have a criminal record and I have no resume. Is there any places I can go to? Any help is appreciated.'
And he pressed post. He was aware of how much of a bum he sounded like, but he needed help. And any help at all was great. Shizuo put his phone back into his pocket, but immediately there was a buzz. He pulled it back out, and checked the website again. Someone had already replied. Shizuo was shocked at how fast of a pace someone was able to conjure up a reply, so he scrolled down to see what they had wrote.
'Hmm... Sounds like you're in a pinch! I can give you a job if you're interested. Here's my work email if you want to contact me.'
It seemed lucky at first glance, but Shizuo felt suspicious of it. He decided to let the post accumulate more attention before making a choice.
After trying for more jobs, he decided that shady answer was probably his best shot. He checked his phone again, and there was quite a few replies, but none of them were exactly helpful. Shizuo sighed, looks like he didn't really have a choice.
Exchanging a few emails, Shizuo found out the person specialized in finding people who have just gotten out of prison and were struggling to get back into society. Seems too good to be true, but Shizuo would bite the bullet. It's not like he was completely defenceless, he could certainly put up a fight if he wanted to.
They had quickly agreed upon a location to meet to introduce Shizuo to his new job. As celebration, he decided buy some nice food for Celty and himself.
It was near nighttime, and Shizuo finally returned to his apartment. He noticed Shooter parked right outside, so Celty must've arrived back as well.
Opening the door, he saw Celty inside, watching TV. Hearing the door, she turned around.
"You're back."
"Yeah, and I got some food," he shuts the door, but has a sudden realisation. "Wait, do you eat?"
"...No." Celty types.
"And I was thinking we could have a celebratory meal." Shizuo sighs. He had kind of forgotten the part that Celty's head was nothing more than a wisp of smoke.
"Celebratory? What's worth celebrating?"
Shizuo hums, as he sets down some paper plates, hiding his excitement.
"I think I got myself a job."
"That's great! When do you start?"
"Tomorrow."
Celty claps for him, while Shizuo enjoys his meal. This world, really isn't bad, is it?
Flashforward to the next morning, Celty prepares herself for another day of work. She was a freelance worker, and would take any odd jobs presented to her. Not that much different than back then, she supposed.
As she was about to head out, she noticed a letter on the windowsill, along with a hefty bag. She carefully tears open the bag, and inside was a stack of cash. Izaya really wasn't joking, huh. On one hand she was grateful, but on the other, she was afraid of what Izaya was planning. They weren't the closest, but she knew better than to trust him. She tore the envelope, quickly skimming the contents within.
"Hi Celty! You're probably thinking, what's the mysterious letter about? Well, it's because I have a job for you. Inside the package is my payment. You see, Shizu-chan has somehow gotten himself a job! Please send him my regards, because this 'job' is very much so working in my favour.
I have planned something for my beloved Shizu-chan, but I need someone that is able to fulfill the last role in my plan. I know that you wouldn't betray your friends, but I believe Shizu-chan has a key within him that will aid us in going back to our world. I know that you miss Shinra, don't you? He's currently in our world, searching for you, saddened by your disappearance. You would want to go back to his side, no? This plan won't hurt Shizu-chan, I promise.
All I need to you to do..."
Celty felt sick. She could never do this to Shizuo. But at the cost of Shinra, she couldn't believe she was actually considering it.
"Of course, please do keep this plan a secret! If everything goes according to my calculations, you might be able to see Shinra very soon."
She rummaged through the package again, finding a small vial inside filled with yellow bubbly liquid. She clutched her fist, and accepted the cash from Izaya.
