The time passes slowly as you sit on the couch, not sure what to do. Armin told you about the room with the books, but you were embarrassed to tell him you didn't know how to read.
Bertholdt and Pieck tried to teach you, but as an orphan you were shoved into a building with no sort of education or way of learning on your own and when the Hoover's took you in, you hid your secret from them until Porcco found out and teased you about it.
It's not like you can't read at all, but there's no way you could enjoy a book. You've gotten by so far without needing to learn, so it's never been much of an issue. Just no book reading for you.
"Food is ready," Armin calls from the kitchen. "Want me to make you a plate?"
"I got it," you shake your head and stand up from the couch, pulling your pants up in the process.
You enter the kitchen and stand beside Armin who places a potato on his own plate and a scoop of boiled cabbage.
"Sorry it's not much, we only get the scraps," he rubs the back of his head sheepishly. "But enjoy."
Again, you want to thank him, but you choke down your words and grab your own food, getting more than Armin because of the lack of food you've had in the last couple days.
"Spoons are in the drawer next to the sink," he sits down at the dining table beside the kitchen, which is in front of a large window facing the pretty field of flowers.
You pull the handle of the drawer and examine the silverware, curious as to if you should pocket a knife. Your eyes scan the utensils while your fingers shake, hoping you can find a weapon. But no, all you can find are spoons.
"I took them all."
His words cause you to freeze...
"That's what you were looking for right? A knife?" Armin picks up his glass of water, not looking anywhere near your direction. "No forks either."
You close the drawer, holding the spoon in hand and sit down across from the blonde. His eyes lift from his food to you, registering your tight jaw.
"If you cooperate, we can get you into the walls. We just need to know you're not a threat to us," he explains.
"Shouldn't you be the one telling me you're not a threat? I mean, after all you're the one who has me as a prisoner," you tighten your grip on the spoon. "There's only one of me and a whole island of you. You'd think you'd give me a break."
"In our experience, your people have caused a lot of issues for us, so I don't think it matters whether there's one or a hundred of you," he frowns.
"I'm not a Titan," you mutter. "I'm a girl."
"I know..." he sighs. "But we have to be careful. You were trained like Reiner, Annie, and Bertholdt, correct?"
You don't answer... You told him you weren't going to open up to him and you're going to stick to your word. He's not getting anything out of you.
"Either way, you're supposed to be watched. Just show us you're not a threat and then we'll do our best to get you back to your home."
"You're lying," you clench your jaw tighter. "There's
No way you'll allow me to go home. You killed Bertholdt when he tried to go home. You almost got Reiner and Annie is still trapped here somewhere. No one goes home... plus it's not like I have much to go back to. You killed hundreds and destroyed miles of the city. I'd be going back to chaos.""I—" he starts, the look on his face darkening into remorse. "I'm sorry."
"Sure," you scoff, picking up your food and going outside.
