Hundred or so pounding heartbeats in Rubina's ears counted of the silence before she cleared her throat. "What?"

"Rahul. He's outside and he wants to see you. He's just... well, you weren't answering the phone or texts, not even your emails." Her sister informed then  shrugged again when Rubina glared at her.

"No. This is...No." Rubina said and stepped over the coffee table to avoid falling face first on top of the broken pieces of glass.

Walking over to the kitchen, Rubina turned at the last second and pointed over at her little sister and said, "You, get out. This is all bullshit." Then turned her back to her little sister and whispered,
"he's.... his fiancé... the announcement..." Rubina sputtered to a stop. Fighting the urge to either cry or breakdown again.

"He just wants to talk to you, sis. He has to take a flight and..."

"Rubina?" Unmistakably.... she heard the voice of the man she loves. Rahul.

Just hearing her name from in his gentle voice made Rubina's blood run cold and her breathing quickened.

"This is the worst freaking day of my life." Rubina murmured.

"It's alright. I've got this." Rahul said softly to the younger Dilaik sister.

Rubina gripped the edge of the kitchen counter and leaned heavily on it. It was all she could do to keep standing. In past life, she must have murdered babies or kittens or something because no good person deserved what she was being put through.

She listened as her younger sister headed down the hallway and then heard the click of the door closing.

"Please, Rahul. Can you just leave? I can't do this."

"No, I can't. I just need to tell you a few things. I owe you that much."

When Rubina managed to pry her fingers off the counter and conjured up a little courage to look at him, she sucked in a sharp breath.

Rahul. He was wearing the same long-sleeved white T-shirt which he had worn while composing a song for her in BB14. Three years ago.

For a moment, Rubina saw the man, she had hurt with her words all those years ago. She saw the man, who always seemed to know her the best without really knowing her.

She saw the man she had fallen in love with and tears welled up in her eyes. She crouched down to try and catch her breath. "Please," Rubina begged.

"Rubi, I know you're married..."

A harsh laugh broke its way past Rubina's lips but Rahul seemed to have no intention of stopping.

"...but I need to tell you what... what I was thinking. I couldn't come to you before. I couldn't just come here and tell you that I broke off my engagement and that I had made huge mistake that I didn't even know where to start fixing things."

"I don't... I don't get it." Rubina whispered, feeling utterly confused. She figured she has about two minutes of control left and then she really was going to lose it.

"Of course you don't." Rahul said and smiled. "The thing is, I couldn't be with her, because... I love you."

Rubina's eyes snapped up to Rahul's face. He looked a bit nervous, his hands clenched in his fists at his sides.

A frown flitted across Rubina's face; she lifted her hand and rubbed at her forehead and then sank right down onto the kitchen floor.

"Don't... please, just go. Don't do this." Rubina begged again.
