Empowerment

The final day before Eren had to leave arrived, Evie wanted to spend the day doing things again.
They'd been to the cinema, gone on a boat trip and a shopping trip.
They'd gone in a photo booth and took some funny pictures together, with everything going on the two girls had forgotten about the troubles ahead.
"One more day before I've gotta go Evie, but I promise I'll be back as soon as possible."
"I can't lie and say I want you to go because I don't but I understand, just get back quickly."
"Yeah I promise, what do you want to do today?"
"We have plenty of time for quiet days I want to ride a horse again."
Eren nodded. "I would like to as well, yeah okay I know just the place."
She rang a local riding school and booked an afternoon ride.
"So they'll cater to my disability?" Evie asked.
"Yep that's what they said, half past two."
"Great, do you have anything I can wear?"
"Sure, this'll be fun."
The two arrived on time and everything was going well. The girls hadn't forgotten that feeling of riding, it was a freeing experience.
Eren noticed someone was looking at the pair of them strangely.
"Evie, you notice the creep glaring at us?"
"Yeah he'd better stop unless he wants a cracked skull."
"Chill, probably never seen blue hair before."
"Hmm, maybe, for his sake he'd better stop giving us the evil eye." Evie felt the anger bubbling up inside her.
After their session had ended they were in great spirits.
"I just want to go back have haddock, chips and mushy peas, oh, so tasty." Evie chuckled.
"Mushy peas though, what even?" Eren smiled.
"Don't knock mushy peas, I could eat a whole plate of it."
Eren was laughing with her cousin until she noticed Evie had turned to face the boy who had been glaring earlier.
He had dark lank hair, pale skin and wore a Union Jack T-shirt.
"You got a problem freaks?" He said in a gruff, venomous voice.
"There's always one isn't there!?" Evie hobbled towards him. "Whenever anything is going well there's always some asswipe that has to try and spoil it!"
"Fuck off you pair of damaged goods, last thing I need is a hop along and her brother annoying me."
"I'm a girl!" Eren protested.
"No you're a boy pretending to be one, it's disgusting." The dead-namer said.
"Evie stop, let's go." Eren asked, it fell on deaf ears.
"Get away from me dyke, your breath probably wreaks of fish."
"She's my cousin you sad little strawman."
"Don't call me names, I'm allowed an opinion, I don't like your sort, deal with it."
Evie looked him in the face then split his nose with a head-butt.
He dropped to the ground wailing.
Another man, bigger and older came out saw his friend on the floor then grabbed Evie's arm.
"You're not getting away with this." He let go of Evie when Eren drove a fist full force into his jaw, his head hit a barn door, he lay their groaning.
"Hold onto your crutches." Eren picked Evie up and raced to the motorcycle.
Moments later they were well out of sight and heading back to Maria.
Eren parked the motorcycle out of view then turned to Evie who began to laugh.
"Looks like we're probably banned from there."
Eren laughed too. "Who cares? We can find somewhere else another day."
As they walked into the bar Tac was there.
"Been in another fight mate? Looks like you both have." He grinned then turned away downing his beer.
Evie had blood on her face and Eren had a bloody hand.
"For crying out loud girls you've been in another fight!" Maria went to them. "Are you both okay?"
"We're good." Evie laughed, Eren nodded.
Issa came out of the back with some glasses ready to stack. "What is it?"
"You're girl's been fighting again." Tac told him.
Issa dramatically went over to them. "Are you both alright?"
"A transphobe was dead-naming me and being rude to Evie too, yeah so um, we left two idiots on the ground covered in blood."
Tac laughed. "You're just like your fathers."
"It wasn't our fault." Evie protested.
"Whatever, get cleaned up and go watch a movie in the living room, at least you'll both behave there."
"That's the only place we do behave right?" Evie laughed looking at Eren.
"Pretty much yeah, look we'll make dinner for everyone." Eren added.
"Will we?" Evie asked.
"Yeah it'll be fun, Tac you should stay, after all you're dating auntie M right?"
"I wish, maybe one day."
"We'll see." Maria added.
"You know I always think of Ady." Evie told Tac.
"I know you do girl, you're a good one, I'll stay if your aunt doesn't mind."
"Sure, all of us. I trust you two will be fine preparing a meal. " Maria winked playfully.
"Yep we can do that, keeping Issa busy I see." Eren smiled.
"Earning a few extra pounds until I get my inspiration to paint again, and so I can treat you when you get back."
Eren and Evie put together a concoction of toast, cheese, tomato soup, bacon, eggs and celery.
Maria gave it a thumbs up, everyone seemed to enjoy it.
Evie crowned it the 'Best of Blue' a meal they would come to have regularly.
