The next morning Eren decided to tidy herself up finally.
Elena noticed a sparkle in her eyes again, a lost soul who had caught a shooting star.
Eren sat at the table muttering to herself.
"Eren, hun, will you tell me what you're saying, thinking?"
Eren looked at her. "You won't be coming with me will you?"
"No, I'm meant to be here, but if you ever want to return I'll be happy to have you."
"Evie too?"
"Yes, Evie too."
Eren nodded and smiled. "Good, she'll be glad to know that, we'll come back I promise. I'll bring you something special as a thank you for what you've done, and an apology for what I did."
"No need, just visit me and I'll be happy enough. I'll make sure I have hotdogs with onions, Evie's favorite."
"Evie's favorite." Eren said at the exact same time.
They laughed.
"As Evie called them Dogons." Eren felt a tear of laughter squeeze itself free, she wiped it away and sighed. "I'm going to the gate in a little while, if I'm ready I'll go later on this afternoon."
"Not until you've had one of my cheese and tomato omelettes."
Eren gave a thumbs up. "Yum, I could live off them."
An hour later they went to the gate which began to light up as Eren placed her hands on it.
"Essex, Braintree, Evie Badawi, world where Eren Badawi is dead." Eren recited.
The gateway opened up just where she wanted.
"Here." Elena gave Eren her drawing and eulogy.
"No you keep them to remember us by, trust me we will be back. I know you can't come and I get why, I'm not silly enough to think it will be easy either. I'll never forget you saved my life Elena, Magnus is proud of you."
"Oh and tell your dad to spend more time with you or I'll kick his ass."
Eren laughed. "Men right, who'd be one?"
Elena pointed. "Clever. Hey give me a hug before you go."
They embraced.
As they let go Elena replied first. "Doggone, no wait, the way Evie would say it...dogon it girl I'm really going to miss you."
"Dogon, I feel the same, you're like a cool aunt I've only just met. With any luck I'll meet my other aunt Emma when I go to find her, and my uncle Fai. Also my mom again and oh you don't want to know what I'll do to Yusha."
"I hope you make the bastard pay. Also it's a privilege to be seen like an aunt."
"Evie felt the same I know it."
"Send her my love after all I sold her Jabnah when she was a kid."
You bet I will. Time to go." Eren pushed her bike through the gate.
"Good luck!" Elena called as the gate closed.
Eren was alone again but she remembered where Evie lived, time to meet her all over again.
As she pulled in to the driveway there was no car and something was taped to the front door.
Eren read it:
The Badawi family Fai, Emma, Evie and Cheese
We are out of the country for now on a business trip abroad, if you are looking for Evie she is with her auntie in Wales.
We don't know when we will return, close friends and family have our contact details, if you are neither kindly fuck off because we don't want to speak to you.
Eren laughed. "Yeah Evie definitely wrote the last part, okay better ring her."
The number was unavailable. "Too damn easy right? Okay off to Swansea, time to meet both Evie and Maria...again, dogon it."
Someone walked past, a nosy fella in his seventies. "Can I help you?" He said in a pompous tone.
"No sir you can fuck off and wipe your ass with a Union Jack."
"Hmph, damn foreigners." He puffed his chest out and marched away mumbling. "Fought a war to stop this sort of thing."
"Fascist." Eren shook her head and decided there was no time to lose, she was off to the land of the Dragon and her mother's birth again.
One brief stop in Bristol to fuel up and get refreshments before she continued on. Fear and excitement building as she got closer.
What would she say? How would they react? Would they like Issa? Did she like dogons? She didn't have time to worry, even if everything was okay who was to say she wouldn't be possessed again?
