Evie continued to study the incantations and the designs.
"Once my dad told me about the Sihr, black magic and about the Sunnah of Muhammad to cast out a possession, like a jinn. It just came back to me after this time, he would read to me at bedtime when I was a kid and in particular I remember this."
"You're religious Evie?"
"For a long time yes until my parents were murdered, I found it hard to believe in Allah after that. I took an interest in Odin but unfortunately the only people I see who worship him now are racists, don't get me wrong Vikings are awesome. But anyway back to the point maybe I should try to find my God again."
"Okay but do you understand any of this crap Elfa wrote?"
"I've got to think about this, I would be happy until I've figured this out, there's got to be something here for me, there has to be!"
"Calm down, Keep looking at it, something will come to you Evie."
Evie gentle lifted the pendant up that was around Eren's neck then went back to the scribblings.
One of the scribblings resembled the butterfly, it was almost a paradigm shift, it resembled a star too. In the middle was a three pronged fork pointing upwards, entwined in a sun and four outward crescents.
Eren stirred, Evie pointed at the forked symbol and how it resembled the pendant, Elena nodded.
Evie drew the fork design into the middle of the pendant, her chipped blue nail varnish needed another coat. She promised to pamper herself more when they got through this.
The fork design glowed blue in the pendant then faded, Evie raised an eyebrow then looked at Elena and shrugged.
"Sketch the rest of the design into the centre Evie."
She did, trying to be meticulous in case of any mistakes.
The pendant glowed blue again then turned the color of ember and got hot in her hand.
"Ow...damn." Evie let go, the color faded from it as it was released from her grip.
It flopped by Eren's side, a spark left it hitting Eren in the chest, Eren groaned weakly but was otherwise unharmed.
"What just happened?" Evie asked.
"Give your cousin a bit longer to rest then wake her up."
"Another ten minutes." Evie replied.
Eren knew she was dreaming as she stood in a dark alleyway surrounded by black butterflies, it was dank and smelt of urine.
She looked back to see a black wall that was too high and smooth to climb, strange lights flashed in the sky.
Turning back she strode forward looking at the butterflies who stared at her with miniature human faces.
Eren shuddered and stopped as a strange looking black rodent with six legs and two heads scuttled over her foot, she stepped back in horror.
The butterflies stared at her coldly, she began to run through the dingy area hoping for an escape from her nightmarish situation.
As she turned a corner she saw a light around forty feet away, the walls still surrounded by black butterflies had a single blue one.
Eren went towards it putting her finger out, It fluttered onto her and landed on her shoulder.
The black butterflies began to make a humming sound then screeched and flew at her.
Eren sprinted for the end of the alley as the winged fiends crashed into her, their sounds making her eardrums hurt, she swatted them away barely able to see where she was going.
She crashed into the wall spinning and landing on her back looking up at a black rain filled sky, she had escaped the alley and the butterflies were returning back to the darkness it held within it.
Looking ahead she saw she was in a dark utopian city with flashing fluorescent lights, her vision was obscured as a man with a long grizzled beard wearing a dirty flannel shirt and jeans covered in an oily green substance looked down on her, he held a three pronged fork covered in mud over his shoulder.
"Who are you then deary?" He asked.
"I'm...Eren, where is this...place?"
He extended a filthy hand, Eren took it to avoid unpleasantness and was easily lifted to her feet with an almost unnaturally strong arm.
"Thanks." She brushed herself off.
"The answer to your question simply put is you're inside the butterfly."
"What's simple about that?"
"How about a huge, scary, dangerous city you oughta be afraid of girly?"
"Yeah I guess, but what is it, the butterfly? I'm Eren by the way."
"It's the thing you're wearing around your neck, name's Hafadha, the Angel of Protection. I don't have my wings at this current point in time, now important. Though it looks like I have something for you kid."
Eren reached for the pendant, it wasn't there.
"Come on, you don't want to be here long, now the kind of place for someone who doesn't fit in."
"Have you seen me? Blue hair, lip ring, I'll take a wild guess I fit in here old guy."
"It's in your eyes, the fear of someone lost, now come with me."
Eren saw a weird looking craft hovering above the buildings to her left.
"If they spot you you'll be in trouble girl, interrogations, tortures, terrible food."
"Yeah okay I get it, I'll follow you."
An old house on the end of the road had its garage door open, Hafadha led her inside it closing it.
He turned on a light and Eren was in shock at what she saw.
A huge blue butterfly hovered inside a cage the size of a car door.
"It looks the one on the pendant."
"This girl is a Sunnah, a messanger and I know why you're here, to exorcise the Sihr from your cousin. Go to the Sunnah and put your hand in the cage, when it touches you it will give you the answer you need."
Something made Eren feel queasy, she rushed towards the Sunnah.
"Don't scare her girl."
"Sorry it's just..." Eren opened the cage gingerly putting her hand inside, the Sunnah reached towards her then...
Eren was fighting against something.
She awoke to Evie's voice.
"You've had long enough cous, time to wake up."
