Stevie was 39 weeks pregnant. And she was ready to go. It was around 3:30 in the afternoon and she had been feeling the labor pains since she woke up in the morning, but they weren't bad. They weren't bad at all. So she pushed through the pain and went about her day. Her parents had been there for about four days at that point so she got up, her mother had made breakfast which she was grateful for because she really needed to sit down and then she played with Freya in the pool for a couple of hours and now Jess had taken her to her friends house for a playdate. Lindsey had written the address down for him and gave him general directions so he wasn't worried in the slightest. So Stevie had spent the last part of the afternoon in the nursery.
She was proud of the nursery, proud of the light pink color she had Lindsey paint it but the thing she was proudest about was the room itself. There was a grey arched crib that would convert just like Freya's did and a grey five drawer dresser that was sufficing as the changing table. There was a simple pad right on top of that that maybe only cost her about five bucks and then she got a couple of changing mats to strewn around the house. The five drawer dresser was about hip height so the top two dressers were half of the width compared to the three bottom drawers that were full width. The top right dresser drawer had diapers and wipes the top left had bibs, socks, and pacifiers. The third drawer was filled with blankets and sheets the fourth drawer was sleepers and because baby clothes was small the bottom drawer was plain onesies shirts, and pants. The quilt that was draped across the crib railing was white and it had really light pink flowers dark grey what looked like leaves and purplish grey baby deer on it. It was a set so besides the quilt it came with a little basket that matched the quilt, a grey fawn stuffed animal, a light pink crib skirt and a pair of sheets that was identical to the quilt.
And Stevie changed the bedsheets in every room of the house every two weeks, so the extra sheets that she bought and had stuck in the dresser were a set of grey sheets with white polka dots, a white set of sheets with pink carnations on it, and some plain pink sheets. In the drawer along side of the sheets were eight receiving blankets, two packs of four to be exact. The first pack included two receiving blankets that were white with little grey bunnies and pink flowers on them, a plain pink one, and a coral one with white polka dots. The second pack had a blanket that was light yellow with almost a golden yellow flowers on it, a light pink one with darker pink flowers creating little hearts on it, a white one with grey polka dots, and a light pink one with coral butterflies on it. There was a light pink fuzzy blanket for the cold cold winter as it was faux fur and would mostly be used on the little carrier that they bought for her and the stroller that accompanied it. The blankets that were currently folded and sat in the little carseat carrier was a white plush, but light blanket with pink, orange, yellow, and blue flowers on it and a muslin blanket that was light pink with dark flower petals on it. In the drawer there was also a white plush blanket with light pink, coral, and grey stripes. A plain pink waffled knit blanket, a pink cotton blanket with silk edges, a purple swaddle blanket-because Stevie hated pink and she needed to add another color to the bedroom-along with a white cotton blanket with yellow sunflowers on it.
Stevie also bought some toys to fill the little cloth basket that came with the bed set. There was a little grey elephant security blanket, a caterpillar teething rattle, a spinning rattle with a little flower on it, a giraffe rattle, a baby tambourine, and some little elephant liquid teethers that could be frozen when the time came. She also bought a play jungle mat which as downstairs in the living room. Up in the nursery she had a little pink wastebasket next to the dresser and a grey cushy rocking chair
in the closet Stevie had all the little outfits and the clothes basket so she was making sure that all of the outfits were with their proper pairings and they were all hanging up properly when she felt what she could only describe as an energy surge and her knees bent slightly, one hand found the closet door, and the other went to the bottom side of her stomach her head tilting back a pained groan squeaking past her lips. And when the contraction passed she knew that she needed to go to the hospital so she waddled her way downstairs where Lindsey and Barbara were watching television.
She calmly and collectedly walked in front of Lindsey and she placed the baby bag on his lap.
"What?" He asks.
"I need you not to panic," She looks between Barbara and Lindsey.
Lindsey just cocks an eyebrow and Stevie rephrased. "Luna is coming...like now." And then she proved it by buckling over and leaning over the arm of the couch a groan falling out of her mouth.
"SHIT, okay um...Barb wait here for Jess and Freya...I'll um, I'll call you when it's okay for you guys to come and bring her and...and...and...um, water, you wanted a water bottle." Lindsey points to Stevie and she nods.
She was really only allowed water and ice chips during labor and she wanted water from home not the nasty hospital water that she thought tasted like chlorine so Lindsey quickly ran into the kitchen and filled up four of their reusable water bottles with those in hand he collects Stevie, the bag, and the carseat and Barbara kisses Stevie's head and gives her a hug before she sends them off to the hospital.
