The black-haired woman pulled her legs out of her partner's lap, and under the laptop she placed there, when her phone started ringing, a frown spreading on her face as she got ready to get up. Her partner easily caught up on Gigi getting suddenly tense, looking at her with questioning eyes whilst she was too caught up to realize it.

"Who is it?" Crystal asked, curious as always but mostly because she was worried for the other woman.

Gigi cracked the knuckle of her free hand out of habit while thinking of a lie, "It's, uh, it's a work thing. I'll be back in a second."

She knew the lie wasn't believable when it was that late at night and hated lying to Crystal despite thinking she had to to protect her. She opened the front door, walking out to the porch as the cold air surrounded her. "Gee-"

"We said cold turkey, Ali. You know you shouldn't call." Her tone was low but firm, trying to get her point across.

A sigh from the other end of the line came, "You wouldn't answer my texts... And I know I shouldn't have been texting, but I just wish you were here with me for the company's anniversary."

A chuckle escaped the plump lips, knowing before when they attended the parties together, Gigi would just be standing around in her girlfriend's arm and only smile and nod to the conversations around her. She wouldn't get any attention, any dances, any drinks from her girlfriend; only the weight of being an accessory for the night. "You didn't call for ours..." Silence; a long, sharp silence. "Space, Ali. You promised to give me it, but yet you're still calling only months into our break."

"Okay, I'll give you your space..."

"Thank you." Gigi turned around, leaning on the railing when her eyes wandered inside to see the red-haired woman back to her work, manipulating the pictures they've taken earlier to one of the most creative pieces of art she had ever seen.

"I love you." Her eyes met Crystal's when she heard the words she would beg to hear before from her girlfriend, a little hurt smile placed on her face. The behavior that seemed to change was confusing her furthermore as she tried to decide what was best for her future; to decide between her career and free-spirited personality and the woman she loved deeply, that she had been together with for years that seemed to be really trying for her.

"I love you too." She left the phone on her ear even after Alisha hung up, her eyes still on the woman now offering a kind smile to her. Knowing they'd have to break it off one day always broke her heart, despite them both making a promise that they didn't seem to be keeping already.

As she walked back in, the big, puzzled eyes greeted her, "Is everything alright, love?"

"Yeah, just a mix up in work they had to fix," she said as she sat back down where she was before. She was grateful to have Crystal to distract her, or else she would be overthinking a sleepless night away. "Now you have to warm me back up."

Crystal laughed as she put her laptop down on the coffee table, making space for the black-haired woman to lay her legs on her lap again. Gigi placed herself comfortably, her pale calves against the tan ones again as the red-haired woman ran her warm hands up and down to help her with the cold. "Needy," she teased, leaning to Gigi in a flirtatious moment.

"Yep, that's me," she said, accepting the short kiss with a smile on her face. It was a word she had been called countless times before, but this was the first time she was answering with a kiss and a smile.

"No complaints here," Crystal joked back before grabbing her laptop again and placing it on her lap to go back to work as Pumpkin climbed the couch, getting comfortable in between the couple to sleep.
