This is the more, uh, mature version of chapter 13. It has some stuff between Sam and Shawn that I know some of you aren't comfortable with, so I uploaded an edited version without the intimate stuff. This one has several extra paragraphs and some changes to the dialogue toward the end, but other than that, the two are completely the same.
Chapter 13
Amoreena's POV
Eric got off me with a groan, and I rushed to my bedroom to see Chris. He was sitting up and rubbing his eyes, looking more pale than usual. "Hey, sweetie," I said as I walked to him and picked him up. He put his arms around my neck as I rubbed his back. "Are you feeling better?" I pulled away slightly so I could see his face. When he nodded, I asked, "Do you wanna go to the park?"
"Yes!" he said, nodding and looking much more animated. I smiled in relief, and Eric laughed by the door.
"If I thought that would work, I would've taken you earlier."
I kissed Chris on the cheek and put him down, asking Eric, "Is it still cloudy out?"
He nodded. "Yeah, thankfully."
"Alright. I'll call Alicia and ask her if Emily wants to come to the park with us."
Normally, I loved sunny days. I hated dark clouds and rain and cold, which was part of the reason I stayed in Miami after I turned eighteen. But now, I had a new appreciation for clouds. It killed me that Chris didn't get to go out like all of the other kids, so I completely took advantage whenever it wasn't sunny.
"Emily's coming?" Chris asked.
Eric answered him since I was on the phone, waiting for someone to pick up. "Yeah, you excited?" He had a proud father's grin on his face.
Chris looked down and flushed, but nodded. Aww!
"Hello?" a girl's voice said, bringing my attention back to the phone.
"Hi, Alicia? It's Reena."
"Oh, hey, how are you?" she asked warmly.
"I'm good. I was wondering if you wanted to bring Emily to the park with us."
"Um, hold on a second." There was a sound like she put her hand over the speaker, then some muffled conversation. Chris was looking at me excitedly, and I hoped like hell Emily would be able to come. "Yeah, sure," Alicia said. "Dylan and I will meet you at your place."
"That's great," I said, smiling at Chris. He gave an adorable grin back at me. "There's a nice park close to the boardwalk."
"Perfect. I'll be over in a few minutes."
*****
"Mommy, they're here!" Chris shouted as soon as the doorbell rang.
"I know, cutie. I can hear the doorbell just as easily as you can," I said, smiling at his excitement. I rubbed the last of the sunscreen on his cheek, just in case the sun came out later, and got off the couch.
The reason he was so happy about this was probably because there weren't many kids around where we lived, and it wasn't like I could take him out during the day to meet some new friends.
