[ Chapter 14 - Friendship and Possible Death ]
"Is everyone ready?"
"Ready." I said, everyone else echoing me as Tony gave a nod, and the Quinjet began to move.
It was silent and the mood was somber, knowing that Ultron was our goal, and that he could give us a hell of a fight. There was probably even a small part of us that acknowledged that maybe some of us wouldn't make it out alive.
"It's quiet. Too quiet." Draco whispered to me, agreeing with my thoughts somehow.
I sighed, checking that I had brought along a gun just in case, and my wand. I've forgotten my wand once or twice before, okay? That was not a pleasant experience.
Steve then caught my eye, somehow looking even more serious than the rest of us. I decided to lighten the mood a bit, because it wouldn't be good if we went into a fight with such depressing thoughts.
"Hey, Steve!"
He looked up along with everyone else, as my voice echoed off the walls of the jet.
"Where's our inspirational speech?"
"Speech..?"
"You know, 'Don't die', or 'We can do this together', or if you really want to bring up our spirits, 'We'll save the world and hopefully survive along the way'?"
Draco hid his face in his hands, shoulders shaking as silently laughed.
"Do we really need it?" Steve asked, lips quirking into a smile. "You seem pretty inspired, maybe you should give one."
"Well, I'm not the captain here."
"Yes, Captain. You should give a speech." Thor spoke up, giving me an approving nod afterwards.
"Speech! We demand one!" Tony proclaimed exaggeratedly.
Steve's smile got even wider at our antics, even as he said with a resigned tone, "Fine. Speech it is."
He went silent for a few moments, probably figuring out what to say. "Ultron knows we're coming."
"No shit." Tony snorted. "He practically invited us."
"Odds are we'll be riding into heavy fire, and that's what we signed up for."
"I don't remember signing up for anything." Draco whispered. "What about you, Calli? Do you?"
I shrugged. "Maybe it was in the contract."
"But the people of Sokovia, they didn't. So our priority is getting them out." Steve continued, oblivious of our short exchange. "All they want is to live their lives in peace, and that's not going to happen today. But we can do our best to protect them."
We all either nodded or muttered our agreement. The citizens were innocent after all.
"And we can get the job done, and find out what Ultron's been building. We find Romanoff, and we clear the field. Keep the fight between us. Ultron thinks we're monsters and we're what's wrong with the world. This isn't just about beating him."
He paused.
"It's about whether he's right."
It was silent for a few moments as the team processed the speech.
"I think that's the most dramatic speech I've ever heard-"
"You're ruining the moment!"
"What moment? The moment Steve created with a dramatic pause-"
