1 September 1974

The fire felt warm against her face as she sat with her friends, soaking up the first day rush. Her stomach felt truly full, and she was tired. Her eyes were starting to droop and her head was resting on someone's arm behind her. Her tan had started to fade, and the smell of fresh sea air was a luxury now to be missed. The sound of waves started to sound in her head, the movement, the sway...

"Nat?" James said, his head on his side as it usually was when he asked a question. His glasses were slipping, and his curls were falling in his eyes. "Did you hear me? I think this might me the year Lily might notice me!"

"Yes mate," The owner of the arm piped up, "After 4 bloody years, she will have decided to fall madly in love with you."

"Shut up Rem."

" 'Shut up rem'. Just ask her out James, one day, in the far, far, far future she might fall madly in love with you." Sirius joked. He looked at Natasha and Remus, something in his eyes growing, but fading just as fast as it came. He had no reason to be jealous, after all it wasn't like he had a crush on Nat. His eyes flickered over Remus once more, and then joined back to the conversation.

"Fine. You know what Pads? I will do exactly that." James got up, regret and hope showing on his face. "Tomorrow at breakfast. Right? Right. Okay, well I'm going to bed now. G'night all!"

He walked towards the stairs, stopping once to kiss Nat on the cheek.

"You know," Nat started to say, glad James had given her a excuse to slip off to bed, "I am gonna put my head down for the night too. Goodnight, sleep well lads."

She found it weird Peter hadn't said anything, but he was probably just in awe of James. She crept up the stairs, only stopping once to put her head in the first years dorm, wishing them luck. Nat reached her dorm, and kicked off her shoes. Mary ran over, hugging her friend...

"Finally, we've only been waiting for like... um.... ever!"

She went to America every summer and every year, she picked the accent up. It took months to fade, and was honestly quite annoying. But, even so, her big brown eyes were always smiling, her nose always scrunched, her long dark hair always perfect against her olive skin. She was smiling now, right at Natasha.

"Oh goodness gracious, not forever." Replied Natasha, in a droll way yet still keeping the innocence in her voice.

"Well obviously not forever, but-"

"She's joking, Mary." Lily said. The Lily Evans, James' long time crush, Gryffindor princess. Everyone who knew Lily loved Lily. except Natasha.

How could James like you? He's so... James. You... you're just not really James' enough. He laughs and has fun, but...

"How was your summer Nat?" Alice asked, breaking the trail of thought.

"My summer? Yeah, it was alright, mainly just at the beach as usual."

But that was a lie, as much as she had been at the beach, it was not alright. The overwhelming feeling, she was down. She felt incapable of getting back up, but it was getting better. She assumed.

The general chatter went on for half an hour, then it started to die down. Finally, Natasha could hear the slowed breathing, a bit of snore. She lay there, and slowly fell asleep.
