As it got colder outside, tempers grew hotter. The others were confused as to why James had suddenly shut up about Lily, and Natasha and James had to keep it secret. They did not really want anyone else to know until they fully understood. James' kept himself distanced with Quidditch training, and Nat asked for more tutor sessions. Regulus didn't mind; he liked Nat, and its not like he had much else to do.
When they had had enough of the studying, they just sat and talked. They learnt a lot more about each other in that time; for example, Natasha liked the 'figgy pudding' they served every Tuesday, and Regulus hated the idea of the blood supremacy Sirius was so sure he loved, Natasha lived by the sea, whereas Regulus lived in the middle of a city. He learnt to watch her eyes as she spoke, the green round the pupil drawing the story she was telling. He learnt to make her laugh when she walked over, as it made the environment more positive. He learnt a lot, and so did she. Yet, Natasha was learning all the school she couldn't quite get the grips of, and learning basic things about him.
Each lesson, he would mention something about choice,
Choice is a necessity where ever you are, who ever you are, whatever you are.
She would always say that if he asked her, it became his daily reassurance. Her smile in her eyes, watching him, trying to read him. Regulus had to build his wall higher each time, afraid of what might happen if someone figured him out.
"Reg, look there's snow!" Natasha shocked him, it was Friday lunchtime and they were trying to cram in some study time before the Hogsmeade trip. "Oh, that is exciting. I can't believe it."
"How old are you?"
"Oh haha, very droll. But is it not perfect timing?" Natasha tried to keep her excitement hidden from everyone, but it was James. The one guy that people pined over, and he had asked her. Regulus watched her start to pack up, carefully folding the page corner she needed to study. Her fingers ran across the leather bounds of the book, feeling the years it had been there, wondering how many years in to the future it would still be there. She looked up, and saw Regulus look away. She smiled, "Thanks mate, for all of this. The studying, I mean. And entertaining me."
"Anything for you, my love."
"Ah, my love?"
"Shut up."
Natasha stood up, and walked past him, stopping to ruffle his hair and kiss his cheek. He blushed and leant his head on her for a moment, and she walked off. He watched her for a short minute, and then packed himself up.
In the dorm, Nat wrapped herself up in her big coat, and her winter things. The girls all watched her, questioning her as she went.
"So do you really like James?"
I think so.
"Does it bother you he's in love with Lily?"
Yes.
"What does Regulus think?"
"What?" She stopped, "Why would that matter?"
"It doesn't." Mary said, rushing to stop anyone else butting in.
"Yes it does." Natasha replied, looking round at them.
"Yeh, you're right," Lily started, "You spend most of your time with him, and the days you dont see him, you're grumpy; the days you do, you walk in singing or humming or shit. He is a Black, and Severus said he was a blood supremacist. He-"
