The sun arose and Sebastian woke up with dark circles invading his under eyes, groaning as he slowly slumped out of bed.
It was a cold morning, wind forming droplets in his eyes as he proceeded to walk to the dark forest. The shadowing cluster of trees could intimidate one, but Sebastian had gone through these countless times, and he knew the way around these woods by heart.
Approaching a small circle of bushes and trees reaching over, forming a type of canopy, Sebastian sat on a big rock, having jagged sides and a smooth surface. Oftentimes Sebastian would come here to think about any certain subject, and to escape the stressful events occurring. There was a sense of comfort in this little place in the woods.
Recently he hasn't had much time of his own, referring to protecting Estelle and Annora, but there were still times where he could think about his life and take a break before going back to work, as endless as it seemed.
Pulling a knife out of a pocket in Sebastian's coat, he picked up a thick stick from off the damp forest floor. As he broke off some extra twigs attached to this wood rod, he started carving what used to be a useless stick, into a durable mini-spear. Around 2 hours passed and Sebastian brushed off the wood scraps that cluttered his legs.
The marshy earth squished as he walked, heading towards the castle feeling tired.
"I was wondering where you were. Come on, breakfast is inside." Kian caught up to Sebastian before turning back immediately after he spoke. Sebastian nodded in response and stayed silent as he walked behind, and then alongside Kian. Guards nodded at the two as they passed, and sitting at the large table for breakfast, Estelle took notice of how tired Sebastian appeared.
"So, how did you guys sleep?" Estelle asked, trying to break the dead silence. At first nobody spoke up, the small scrapings of forks and plates being the only noise in the painfully quiet room. Estelle stopped looking around for any responses and looked down before going back to eating. A few moments later, Annora decided to answer.
"Worse than normal, but I still managed to get some sleep, I guess." Annora shrugged and pushed food around her plate, for she had lost her appetite. "What about you guys? You're so quiet." Annora made eye contact with Kian before looking away, intimated. The slightest smirk formed in the corner of Kians mouth before he began.
"Normal, nothing specific changed my sleep, why?" Kian knew this was a lie, but he didn't want to seem weak in saying he was thinking about how unfair they were being treated. Annora let out a scuff and replied sarcastically.
"Oh, I don't know Kian, maybe, just MAYBE, because we are being forced into marriage?!" The enthusiasm of anger in her voice charged up. "Oh yeah, I forgot, you don't care about anyone, let alone us." Annora death-stared at Kian, and tension filled the air. The two's eye contact felt like icicles as they spoke, it was almost as if they were in a competition for who would look away first.
"And why should I care about your love life?" Kian said as if he was talking to an immature child, which only made Annora infuriated. The two continued to argue, and whilst, Estelle and Sebastian occasionally tried to stop them, which was no help whatsoever. Annora and Kian grew louder, their voices showing no fear or sign of backing down against one another, and it wasn't until Annora let out a final remark before storming out of the room that the space was finally quiet.
"I HATE YOU!" Annora screamed, throwing both of her hands onto the table and storming away, Estelle quickly running after her, but not before giving a quick look of judgment towards Kian. One could recall a scoff of hate coming from under her breath.
Kian let out a sigh before talking under his breath. "She doesn't understand what I would do for her." Getting out of his chair, Kian adjusted his shirt and brushed off his pants before leaving, Sebastian sitting alone at the table, speechless.
