AUTHORS NOTE: Hey be aware that this story takes place in France, at the moment!
AMBRE
I scootched back when the Ambulance stopped in front of us. A petite blonde girl comes out of the ambulance, following behind her was a pretty black girl almost the same height. They both hurried to the old man. Kneeling next to him. "Hey, sir! How is everything?! Any pain or dizziness?" The blonde girl asked. "I'm fine girls. Ms. Dupont here is very knowledgeable and helpful." The old man smiled at me. The medics nodded and loaded him onto the stretcher. I stood up to go back to my car.
Cars were still waiting behind my car. "Ms. Dupont, do you mind coming with me? Just so you can help me fill out some forms?" The old man asked. He looked at me pleadingly. Ugh. My test. Ugh, it's fine. I'm sure they could make an exception, after all, I was being a good French citizen. I nodded quickly And ran to my car. I got in and followed quickly after the ambulance.
We were in the emergency room in no time. I was taken to the front desk where I had to write down what had happened. Step by step. I right down as quickly and illegibly as I can. I sign my name and give the papers back. The old man is being wheeled to the front when I am done. An old lady with a cute bob walks into the hospital. She wore a purple swishy dress. Black wedges and a shiny row of pearls. She rushed over quickly to the man. A look of concern on her face. "Francis! Qu'est-il arrivé? Est-ce que tu vas bien mon amour? // English: Francis! What Happened? Are you okay my love?"
She brushed her fingers over his jaw. Assessing him. He held her hand to his face adoringly. " French: C'est bon amour! Mme Dupont là-bas a été très utile. // English: It's okay love! Ms. Dupont over there was very helpful." I wave at him. I smiled kindly. I walked over my hand outstretched. " Bonjour, c'est très agréable de Vous rencontrer! Mais j'aimerais pouvoir parler plus longtemps! Je Suis pressé! Je dois partir! // English: Hello it is very nice to meet you! But I wish I could talk for longer! I am in a hurry! I have to leave!" They nodded their understanding and waved goodbye at me. I waved back and rushed out of the hospital, my heels clicking on the tiles.
I went to my car and turned the key in the ignition. I started to become anxious when I realize just how late I was. I was supposed to be in class at 7:50. The test started at 8:00 I sped down the road like a maniac. It was now 7:55. My heart was pounding so hard it felt as if it was going to burst from my chest. There was no way I was going to make it in time. I was going to be late, but maybe they could spare me. I was only late because I was helping someone. That had to count for something. It was now 8:00. I knew It was inevitable but it hurt my soul seeing that I was late.
I reached the building at 8:05. I parked my car hastily and marched to the building. I rushed forward to the front desk lady. Her brunette hair shone prettily. I had never seen her before. This school changes receptionist like a person changes underwear. " Hey! look! I know I'm late but can you please just let me into room 403!? Or can I just please have a few minutes with your advisor? I'm late but this test is really important. Please, Please. I need this!" The brunette looked at me annoyingly before fixing her composure. She probably had people tell her these things many times every day. I felt so embarrassed. She smiled kindly. "Look ma'ame your late and my boss doesn't like that, You won't be able to take the test. Even if I try to help you, it will only get me in trouble, and you will probably get expelled. I'm sorry." She smiled a sad smile at me.
I guess this was it. "Thanks anyway," I murmured to her and turned to walk back out of the college building. I was starting to rock a massive headache. My breakfast was doing summersaults in my belly. Okay so. I missed my final exams. I have to redo the whole year of school again. I won't be able to get a resourceful job until next year. This was all dawning on me now. I didn't have my master's so I couldn't get the job I would prefer. Mcdonald's, here I come. I guess. I trudged forward, making my way to my car. That was being tolled by the fucking police! OH MY GOD. "French: HEY! HEY! ATTENDEZ-MOI ICI! JE PARS MAINTENANT// English: HEY! HEY! WAIT I'M RIGHT HERE! I'M LEAVING RIGHT NOW."
The police officer shook his head and shrugged. I stood there tears threatening to spill, but. I wouldn't allow it. I won't cry. I reached into my purse and got out my MetroCard. I was gonna take the bus. And then I was going to go to the nearest McDonald's from my house and get a job. I need something to help sustain my sisters and me. I can do my final exams next year. I'll probably score higher because all the answers will be drilled into my head. I'm not too much of an optimist but right now it's helping me.
My car is towed and I missed my finals test but I'm not hysterical, everything will be fine. The bus driver smiled softly at me when I pay and make my way into the bus. I sit in an empty seat and get my phone out to text Anais. I gasp when the bus jerks to a stop and a tall man falls on me. I hit my head on the window but it's not a big deal. The man starts to apologize repeatedly. His voice was soft and light. Delicate. I looked up and glimpsed a pair of green eyes. What a handsome man. He looked away quickly. "I-I'm s-sorry." his lips quivered a little as he stuttered out his apology. A light pink rose to his face. A blush.
