EZRA

"We have to go! They know where we are! You're so fucking stupid! Get up! Get up!" Her voice sounded hoarse and angry. I didn't waste any time. I stood up quickly and made my way to the door. "Now I have to keep an eye out for you. I thought I could trust you." She sounded hurt. Like I was the one doing the wrong thing. I was about to say something rude when I felt a cold steel barrel to the back of my head. "Go! Go!"

This was it. I was actually going to die. And Amber didn't even know how I really felt about her. "Go to the right and feel around for a handle." I did exactly what she said. At least I could be alive for a little longer this way.

The tires of the police car skirted loudly as we raced to the location where Ezra was last spotted. I really hoped we weren't going to be too late. I wanted to be with him.

EZRA

The bright California sun burned my eyes but I didn't have time to react. The gun was being jammed at the back of my neck. "Go get in the car!" The car was different this time. It was a big white van with dents in the side. She pushed me into the passenger side and closed the door. She ran to the driver's side and zoomed off not taking a second to put her seatbelt on. "Ugh your so dumb. You're messing up all my plans!" She waved the gun around and in my face. Please god, let the police find me. I had to find something that could help the police find me. Anais's phone. It would make for good measure. She drove in a calm fashion. As if she didn't have to worry anymore.

Were we that far away? "Can we turn on the radio...please?" I had to know whether if they were close to the location or if they even knew we had left. Anais gave me a stink eye before twisting the knob for the radio. The news reporter was a man and he was just about done reporting the weather. " It was going to be hot, hot, hot and sunny, sunny, sunny." His happy-go-lucky tone made a turn for a more solemn and humorless tone when he started on the next topic. I knew right away that it was about me.

"A non-local tourist who goes by the name Ezra Collymore came down to California to see his family when he was abducted some hours ago by an unknown suspect. He was last seen with his arm sticking out of the basement of the old abandoned church on Jenson's street. The police have arrived at the location but have made no progress. The victim and the kidnapper are nowhere to be seen." My heart dropped. They wouldn't find me. They couldn't. They didn't even know who had kidnapped me. Unless they found IT. But I made IT so small.

Anais was grinning like a cashmere cat. I could tell that she was very happy with how things had turned out. I turned down the radio as the newsman went on to talk about sports. His happy-go-lucky voice was back on. "This is great? we are back on track."

He wasn't here. They had left before we got here. A tear rolled down my face. I tried to hide it but Neveah had already seen it. "Ambre, stop fricking crying, you're making me scared. He's fine. You said he was going to be fine!" Nevaeh's voice cracked a little before she cleared her through and forced a smile on her face. Come on, someone must have seen this. Or maybe a camera could have seen the kidnapper!" She looked around looking for severance cameras. " Look the store! We have to look and see." The cops put yellow tape around the church and were using machines to scan the area. Probably looking for fingerprints or any kind of DNA.

We raced across the street to the store and asked the clerk if he had any servaliance cameras that could have seen the face of the kidnapper. The clerk was certain we wouldn't find anything but let us in the see the surveillance cameras anyway. The police officers were still sweeping and checking the church for anything.

We stopped in front of a building. It was grey and looked as if it was about to fall down. Anais took a deep breath before speaking. "Look, you know I can't trust you anymore right?" I looked her in her face and didn't say anything. She was a beautiful young lady. Most of her features resembled Ambre. But instead of kindness her's was marred with hate and anger. It scared me. "Get out! come on we have to be fast before anyone sees us." She made me step out of the car. But I still wasn't free. The gun was still being jammed against my back. She made me go around the building and to the back. It seemed she had thought about everything right to the smallest details.

This place was much different than the other abandoned building. It looked more livable and there were lights in here. It also didn't have mold or smell like it had been vacant for some time. "What is this place?" I questioned her. She looked at me, but then ignored my question. "Sit down and explain to me how you almost got away. I find it interesting how smart you actually are. I wasn't expecting that from Ambre. To me, she doesn't suit you. I could be the one, you know?"

ANAIS

To be honest, it would be easier to just kill him, but what were the odds that I could get him to fall for me? And that maybe that would hurt Ambre even more than him being dead. The betrayal, the pain. Oh, this was going to be amazing! "Ezra, look I don't want to hurt you...at least not right now. I just want you to listen to what I say and don't ever. Ever trick me like that again." He nodded at me. His face was dusted with pink and his chest was heaving. What a delicious sight he was.

EZRA

It was scaring me the look on Anais's face. It was as if she was imagining all of her crazy mischievous ways were happening. I wouldn't succumb to this. I would escape and it would be the swiftest and most discreet way ever.

Neither the faces of Ezra nor the kidnapper was seen on the cameras. My heart sagged. We rewatched the same video over and over. In hopes of catching something. Anything. And then I saw it. It was so little we were bound to have missed it, if only we weren't as desperate. We would have missed it. It was a tiny piece of paper. That dropped from Ezra's pocket. Weather on purpose or not. It could help with this situation.

I looked over quickly to Nevaeh. "Did you see that?" She nodded her head so hard. Her hair fanned all around. We stood up quickly and thanked the clerk.
