AMBRE

I fixed the hems of my skirt and smiled at Nelson as he pulled into a fancy valet parking lot. Nelson gets out of the car and opens the door for me just as a small petite lady with curly hair comes our way. She greets us happily and takes Nelson's keys. Nelson holds my hand and guides me into the restaurant. The place wasn't very light it was dim and circular tables took up most of the spaces in the dining area. A tall man smiles at Nelson. "Hello, sir and ma'am, and welcome to Per Se! I can see that you have made reservations prior so follow me if u please!" Per Se? What kind of restaurant name is that? We didn't go to one of the circular tables like I thought we would.

The tall man took us to an even dimmer place. It was secluded. The chairs looked cushy from over here. And the candle in the middle of the table was so romantic. I turned and smiled at Nelson who returned an adoring smile my way.

"Alright here you both are. I will send the waiter over and take your order." Nelson thanked him and then took my hand. He led me to one of the chairs, pulled it out, and then beckoned me to sit down. "You can order anything you like my dear dinner is on me." Nelsons tone was reassuring. I nodded. I was going to argue and say that I could pay but I didn't want to rain on his parade. We both sat in a comfortable silence as we picked what we were going to eat before the waiter came over. A chirpy voice that greeted us sweetly caught our attention. "Hello, what would you guys like to order?"

Nelson's Dinner

We didn't have to wait long after we ordered

We didn't have to wait long after we ordered. With Nelson, I didn't really have to ask him anything. He talked a LOT. So mainly I kind of ate and drowned out his voice when I needed to. I learned that he moved here from Detroit. His family was still back there except for a sister that he knew lived in new york, but they had yet to meet up and speak with each other. They don't keep in touch. And when I asked him why he suddenly got cold and said: " You ask too many questions". I literally didn't ask any questions besides that but I guess he doesn't like questions.  The food wasn't too bad but it could have been better. The place was very comfortable, I would gladly give it that.

Nelson held my hand when he finished paying for the dinner. He drove me home, again filling the silence with stuff about himself. He loved to work out on Sundays. He hated pineapples, coconuts, and cherries. Welp, then he must have found me to be smelly then. My body products are all scented cherry.  He became silent when we reached my building. It was dark out now and everyone was heading home or going out for some nighttime fun. "Listen Ambre, this was really nice for me. I would love to get to know you more." I smiled even though I didn't really feel It in my heart. It was there but barely. I'm sure I will feel the love later on. I leaned in to give him a kiss. I could slightly taste the expensive wine we had for dinner still on his tongue.

Nelson deepened the kiss and groaned. Sure he was a good kisser but It was hard for me to say that I really had any feelings for him at the moment. I pulled away and smiled at him. I turned to go to my apartment and I didn't turn to see whether if he was looking or not.

EZRA

Time-lapse: 2 days

I took a deep breath before walking into the hospital. I walked over to the receptionist's desk. Nevaeh's hair clip digging into my palm. The receptionist had a bright smile on her face. She looked at me ready to help me get what I needed. " H-hello...Is Nevaeh able to have visitors?" The receptionist looked a little quizzical before it seemed she had an answer of some sort. " Well, I suppose you don't know Navaeh's last name but it seems she has been waiting for you herself. Take the elevator to floor 7. Take a left and then another left. The door is blue. Bye!" She was on to the next patient before I could say thank you.

I followed her instructions carefully but I still somehow found myself almost getting lost. But then I found the blue door. Each of the doors was painted a different color. This was one cool hospital. I took a measured breath before I knocked on the door. After a second a noticeably hoarse voice called out for me to come in. I didn't linger. I was met with an ecstatic face when I stepped into the room. Nevaeh was smiling ear to ear. Then her smile disappeared, followed by a mocking angry face. "Hey! Bitch what took you so long?! Got me growing gray hairs and shit!" I chuckled and went to sit at the chair next to her. Her voice wasn't so hoarse anymore. It was clear and healthy.

"Well I'm glad that you are feeling better." I spoke in a soothing tone. "Well what are you going to do now? Do you have someone to go to?" Nevaeh looked to be thinking for a moment and then she looked back at me. "I have somewhere to go. Don't worry. My Aunts don't live too far from here and unlike my mom they will actually love me and care about me." Her tone was a little sad. I tried to lighten the mood. "I have your hair clip with me do you want it back?" I handed her the blue hair clip and watched in shock as she broke of a piece and handed it to me. She then wrapped her hair up and then put the hair clip in.

She laughed at my facial expression. "Let me tell you something. Don't tell anyone. My mom kicked me out because she said I was trying to get with her boyfriend. Which was a complete lie because first of he was broke and disgusting. He literally laid in the couch all day and then he took my moms money and bought drugs. Then one day I told him it's not fair he should stop. He became angry and told my mom that I made a move on him. And she believed him."

What a depressing story. What kind of mother does that? "So then she kicked you out and left you on the street which made it possible for all the pedophiles to hunt. Disgusting." I couldn't help the disgust that was laced in my tone. Poor Nevaeh.
