AMBRE:
I press my palm to my aching head as I park my car in my driveway. I slip my heels off and head towards my house. I sluggishly swing my purse. left, right, left, right. I reach inside my purse for my keys when I hear a commotion behind the do...
He was tall but he scrunched his body in as if he were trying to hide. He had shiny locks of gold hair falling into his eyes. The sides were shaven down. His apology was in English, not French. A tourist? All alone? Before I could respond to his apology he darted out of the bus before it could start moving again. A clattering noise resonated in my ears but I wanted to watch him leave. Any part I could get. He disappeared around a building, his blonde locks flopping and his tall and looming body clad inexpensive clothing. I turn my attention back to the object that was clattering before. I look around the floor and find a pen. A fountain pen. It was shiny. Gold and silver. I reached for the pen, making sure people didn't accidentally step on my fingers.

The pen was heavy. Still warm from being held by the blonde-haired man. The pen had beautiful swirls and embroideries on it. It was beautifully designed. A flowery adornment circled the pen. Must have cost a lot, with how beautiful it was. Small blue jewels embellished the pen. I twirled the pen trying to find anything that would give away the name of the owner. Nothing. I sighed and put the pen in my purse. I guess it was mine now. I could charge it as a small fortune. I make my way to the door as the bus stops at the McDonalds next to my house. I could apply for some jobs that didn't require me to have degrees or my master's. Simple. My flats made a clicking sound with each step I took. It was therapeutic. I pass by a Macy's store, the urge and itch to go shopping was strong but I ignored it. I needed to save. I had younger siblings to care for.
I stopped in front of the local Mcdonald's and went inside the smell of cooking grease and fatty foods calling my name. Yea it's unhealthy but once in a while is fine. A pretty black lady with cornrows going into a bun smiles at me. " French: Bonjour! Bienvenue chez Mcdonald's! Puis-Je Prendre Votre commande?! // English: Hello! Welcome to Mcdonald's! May I take your order?!" I shake my head. " French: Non en fait, Je voudrais une candidature, s'il Vous plaît? // English: No actually I would like an application, please?" The lady looked me up and down. Surprise etched in her expression. She nodded and beckoned me forward. I followed behind her, the sound of click-clacking of my therapeutic flats bouncing around the walls. I was given a sheet of paper and a pen.
I finish the application in no time and hand it back to the lady. She looks over it and nods her head. She waves goodbye at me. I wave goodbye at her and leave the Mcdonald's. It's still 9. I have the whole day ahead of me to do something and cheer myself up. Maybe I could go home and cook something. Or I could find some paint and redecorate the house. I am brought back to reality when I see a lady with a pile of papers coming my way. As she makes her way down the sidewalk she drops one of her papers. I hurry to pick It up for her. " French: Madame, l'un de Vos papers est tombé! ici! // English: Madame one of your papers has fallen! here!" I called out to her but she must have been in a hurry.
"French: Ne Vous inquiétez pas, gardez-le! // English: Don't worry just keep it!" She called out to me hurriedly. She didn't look back as she crossed the street. I looked after her dumbfounded. What the hell am I suppose to do with a document. I look closer at the paper. It wasn't a document after all. It was a flyer. A company in need of employees. What a coincidence! I looked at the spot the lady last was. She was gone. I looked at the address. It was across town! Well, I could make it in half the time if I had my car, but no. The police gotta take it. At least I had my metro card. Off to the other side of the town I go! I could make it in time before Anais and the rest was out of school, at around 3:00.
I ran to the bus stop as I saw it approaching. I couldn't afford to miss it.
Time-lapse: 2 hours 45 mins
It was 11:00 now. I sighed a tired sigh as I got out of the bus. My legs were stiff and I had a slight headache. But all would be okay. Right? I looked at the big building and written in big blocky letters were the words. DeRose Enterprises. Well, I hope they take me despite the fact that I missed my finals. When I enter the building the aura of authority and business automatically makes me walk straighter and with more confidence. It is slightly chilly and smells of cleaning products. There are glass designs hanging from the ceiling and they change color depending on where you stand. I head to the front desk where a pretty Asian lady sits. A long ponytail lays on her right shoulder. Her smile is bright and reassuring.
" French: Bienvenue chez DeRose Enterprises! Comment puis-je vous aider!? // English: Welcome to DeRose Enterprises! How May I help you!?" Her voice was loud and confident. I matched her energy. "French: J'ai Vu dans un dépliant que vous Cherchez des employés? // English: I saw in a flyer that you guys are looking for employees?" She nodded her head. " French: Asseyez-Vous ici et Je ferai savoir au patron! // English: Have a seat here and I will let the boss know!" She pointed to a soft-looking chair and disappeared around the corner. She was back within 5 minutes. She beckoned me forward around the corner and held a door open for me. "French: Entre! // English: Come on in!"
I smiled at her and went inside the room. It was warm and bright. There were a lot of white and blues. The room was very well put together. " French: Viens t'asseoir cher! // English: Come have a seat dear!" The voice of the strange pilled my attention. He smiled at me kindly, the surprise well etched into his features as well. I could not believe my eyes! The old man! From the street! Owned this company? I quickly made my way closer and had a seat. "French: Je pense que c'est la journée la plus étrange que j'ai eue! // English: I think that this is the weirdest day I have had!" His voice was light and kind, dripping in disbelief.
