Reeves is the most powerful and quite possibly the handsomest man in the pack and standing in his presence I feel small and insignificant. But despite the feeling of awe and humbling I know I was meant for him. It seemed that our Gods had intended for the most powerful to love the outcast.
I sit in awe for a few moments and Reeves gestures for the announcer to allow all of the men to return to mingling as my soul mate has been found. He turns back to me and I watch him, wanting to memorize everything about him, the slope of his nose, the angle of his jaw, and even the way his shoulder muscles move. Suddenly he moves towards me, wrapping his arms around me, his hands at the small of my back as he pulls me to his chest. I inhale his scent and he leans down, pushing my hair aside as he whispers, "I've spent years hoping you would come."
I allow myself to get comfortable against his chest, our heartbeats falling into a rhythm. I know this is wrong and I shouldn't allow myself to get close or attached to him but I can't help it. With him I feel as if I can breath easier and I don't want to let go. But after what feels like only a few seconds in his embrace we are called to the table for supper. Reeves follows me to my seat and begins to sit next to me, his hand never leaving the small of my back, when the Beta, whose first name is Pheonix, walks over and addresses him.
"Alpha Reeves, I know you have finally found your mate that you have been missing for the last 24 years, but I must insist that you sit at the head of the table." Reeves nods his head in compliance, a grimace on his face. He leans down and kisses my cheek and then is whisked off to the opposite end of the table, sitting with his Delta ad Beta on either side of him.
I eat my food, not really tasting it as I glance between Reeves, who has his eyes trained on me, and my father. He is beaming, telling anyone who addresses him that his daughter will rule the pack side by side with the Alpha.
But all I can think about is the looks on their faces when I tell Reeves that I cannot be with him, that he must move on and find a women who can properly rule and can match his power, confidence, and people skills.
The party quickly dies off once the meal is over and my father slips out the front door without saying goodbye or congratulations. Soon the only people hanging back are Pheonix and the Delta, who live here, and Axel, who approaches me to say goodbye. He beams at me as he walks across the room and as he goes to wrap his arm around me I hear a deep growl from behind me.
Reeves steps in front of me and pulls me out of the grasp  of Axel. Before I can stop to think I let out a hiss and Reeves jumps in shocked, surprised that I would dare counter his actions. "He is my friend and I will hug him all I please." I say as I duck around him and wrap my arms around Axel. I whisper him a quick goodbye and he leaves the house. I turn to Reeves to accept the consequence for what I did.
As soon as the door closes Reeves walks towards me but instead of lashing out he pulls me toward him and cradles my face in his hands, pulling my face to his. I place my hands on his chest to stop him. "I can't do this. All I'm going to do is pull you down. I'm not like everyone else. You have to let me leave. You cannot love me." I say taking a step backwards. As I turn around to walk away I heara deep, loud growl.
"Don't you dare try to leave me."
