I slowly turn around, looking Reeves up and down, reading his posture. His jaw is rigid and his face is set in a glare. I can feel my eyes widen in shock, I thought he would be upset but I never imagined he would be this angry. I take a step back, worried that he will lash out at me.
"We were meant to be together. You were created by the Gods for me, to balance me out, to give me a sensitive side, to make me settle down, and I was made for you to make you realize that you do belong here. If you defy the mate-ship and you leave you will be destroying your only hope of ever belonging here and I will have no one to reign me in, letting my power and anger go unchecked." He says slowly and sincerely as I survey the room and realize we are alone.
"I'm afraid that me being here, in this house and by your side, will make a mess of things for you. I wouldn't blame you if you don't want me, it wont be the first time." I look down at the ground and never once look up, afraid to meet his eyes.
"Are you not listening to what I am saying?!" He yells, but then he catches himself, talking slower and quieter this time. "I have been looking for you for the first 23 years of my life and now that I have finally got you there is no way I am going to let you go, especially not over something as stupid as the form you change into." I look up at him and he gives me a small, cautious smile. He takes a few steps toward me and gently sets a hand on my waist.
I want to be upset at him for raising his voice and I want to keep my distance from him but as soon as our skin touches that all seems to melt away and all I can concentrate on is Reeves. I inhale his scent and immediately allow myself to loosen up and lean into him. "I like that your a cat you know. I'd probably get sick of the wet dog smell." Reeves whispers into my hair as he pulls me into his chest. I giggle into his chest and then stop as I hear footsteps pounding down the stairs.
I turn my head over my shoulder and see Beta Phoenix and the Delta coming down the stairs. Reeves untangles himself from me as the men approach us. Phoenix gives me a nod as we have already met but the Delta holds his hand out to me, I place mine on top of his. "Hello Darling, I'm Delta Carson but you can just call me Carson." I let out a small laugh when he brings my hand to his lips but I am cut off by Reeves' deep growl.
He gently pulls me away and wraps his arm around my waist, pulling me into his side, obviously not wanting to share me or let me away from his side. "Don't touch her." He says, his voice still a growl.
"Calm down, it's okay. He didn't do anything wrong." I whisper into his chest in an attempt to calm him down, repaying the favor from earlier. I feel some of the tension be released from his body as he takes a deep breath.
"So what do you two morons want anyways?" Reeves asks, his voice still rough with anger.
"We just wanted to remind you that you have a meeting with the council tomorrow morning regarding your recent discovery of your mate and the probability of children in the near future." Phoenix says. I nearly choke on the air and I can feel my cheeks turn bright red in embarrassment. Reeves flips off the guys who are howling in laughter as he gently steers out of the room and up the spiral staircase to the 2nd floor. He calls over his shoulder that he will be in the conference room at 10:00.
After a few minutes f navigating the twisting hallway in silence Reeves leads us into what appears to be the master bedroom. I look at the alarm clock and see that is reads 11:37 PM. "Reeves, I would love to spend more time with you but I should really go home and get some sleep." I say looking down nervously at my hands.
"Della darling, you live here now." Reeves say quietly, taking my hands in his. "Don't be nervous. I'm not going to do anything." He gives me a kiss on my forehead and leaves me alone to change into pajamas. I call him back into our room and curl up by his side. I sense myself slipping into my Lynx form as I feel wolf fur brushing up against my skin.
