Chapter 12

It was just another day. Mia had gotten ready and gone to her office with Jake.

The two have been looking for Alina for almost a month now but they have not found a single lead. Mia decided to stop looking for Alina and focus on her work.

Mia and Jake reached the office to see that Charlie hadn't arrived yet. Mia thought she might be running late so she just went inside her office.

Jake left the office to run some errands while Mia reached her desk. She settled down and found a note kept on her table. She opened it and she was beyond shocked after reaching what was written.

(The note is written in Italics)

Wearing the clothes that you made,
Using a dagger of Jade,
I will kill the people you love,
Your dearest uncle, you and Jake.

Mia knew exactly who this was. Mrs. Clair.

Mrs. Clair had shown Mia a dagger once, in the past, made of Jade. She couldn't believe that her mother was alive.

Mia also knew where she had to go. The castle. Her castle.

Without wasting another second, she grabbed her car keys and ran off to her car. She sat in her car and drove off to the castle.

On her way, she called Michael but his phone was off. She called Jake but his phone was out of coverage area and even Charlie's phone was unreachable.

After a 15 minute drive, she finally reached the castle. She stopped in front of the gates and got out of the car. The atmosphere there gave Mia creeps. Memories came flooding back. Her dad's death, her mother's torture. But she knew this wasn't the time. She had to stay strong.

She opened the rusted gates and started walking towards the castle. It was very silent which was even more terrifying.

Mia walked with slow but steady footsteps. She reached the door and pushed it open. She was trembling with fear but she put up a strong face and walked in.

She looked everywhere except for the attic. She was very scared to go in there. But she had no other option but to go inside the attic.

She walked to the attic and saw the door open a crack. She opened the door which creaked. She entered inside and was shocked to see what was inside.

The attic was full of bloodstains and knife marks. And in one dim-lit corner, she saw Michael, Jake, Charlie, and Brian, Jake's younger brother, unconscious with ropes tied around them.

She ran to them and tried to wake Michael up.

"You did come. You are more courageous than I thought." A familiar voice said. Mia stood up and looked behind her to see Mrs. Clair, or should I say, Alina, standing there, wearing the red dress and holding a Jade dagger.

"What are you trying to do? Leave them!" Mia said, trying hard not to stutter in fear.

"It's not that easy, honey," Alina said, coming close to Mia and playing with her hair. " You cut your hair. That was a big mistake."

Alina pulled Mia's hair, making her groan in pain. Mia pushed Alina away.

During their conversation, Jake had woken up and was trying to set himself free. He had learned this while learning self-defense.

When Mia pushed Alina, she dropped her dagger which Mia picked up and went to stab Alina when someone stopped her. It was Jake.

"Mia it's not worth it. Don't do it." Jake said and took the dagger from her hand. "Just wait for a few minutes."

Mia didn't understand what he meant but she decided to trust him.

While they were distracted, Alina took the dagger and went to stab Jake. Mia was quick to see this and she came in the way and she was stabbed instead.

Alina left the dagger and started running out but she was met by the police. When Jake was kidnapped by Alina, he pressed the emergency button which he and Brian had designed for emergency and if someone presses this, the other calls the police and that's what Brian had done.

Alina was arrested and Jake carried Mia to the hospital.
