I think this should be a cute and sweet chapter. Enjoy!
Chapter 19
Emily P.O.V
At the first sign of pain, Bucky drops the bag of balloons, making them explode and he scoops me up into his arms. He begins to run through the halls with me directing him where to go through Alice.
Every so often he would glance down at me, withering in pain in his arms. I could see him cringe as I gasp, trying to inhale air.
When we reach the corridor where the rest are, water balloons begin to explode around us. Bucky gets down on his left knee, as he quickly lowered us to the ground and he curls me into him, protecting me from the water.
After a while, they stop, but a large amount of water is dumped on us, along with some of the remains of balloons. I look up to see a large green arm with balloons. I try to laugh, but the pain begins to get worse.
Bucky notices and he stands up quickly with me back in his arms. He turns to them and they notice my gasping body. They run up to me.
When Natasha touches my skin, she immediately pulls back.
“Dang, girl. You’re hot.” She says and I would’ve laughed if I wasn’t in pain. I look abruptly up at Bucky. Before he realizes what I’m doing, I jump out of his arms and back away from them.
I see part of his jacket smoldered from there I was on his arms. Bucky reaches for me and I dodge, even though I’m in pain. I look at him earnestly giving him a look that says ‘Don’t you dare’.
I look down at my body and it begins to look like a red hot poker. I begin to stumble away from them. Tony looks at me and I can tell he’s in deep thought.
“Where are we? I can call Jarvis and get the serum Bruce and I made for Pepper when she was injected.
“Tony, I was.” I inhale quickly and they all step forward and I step back. “I was one of the first experiments. Do you think they had it right, by then?” I say to him lean on a desk, catching papers on fire. “Alice, get a suit to put out the fire.” A suit flies out and extinguishes it. It then moves to a corner of the room.
“We can at least try.” He says and I get on one knees when the pain become even more intense. It feels like my veins are burning, like I’m living in a fire. Like I am the fire. I am the fire.
“Step back.” I tell them. They take a few steps back and I walk up to a desk. I light it on fire. They stare at me confused and I put my hand in it. The pain becomes hotter and I let out a silent scream, soon the fire extinguishes from the desk and into my veins, burning but after a few minutes it moves away.
I fall to my knees, exhausted. I feel hands grab on both of my arms and they pull me up from the ground. My head hangs, tiredly and I begin to mumble things moving through my mind.
“If I can make the serum again, but correctly with more of the missing pieces I could, probably cure the fire where I would be able to control it. If I absorb fire…” I keep on mumbling aimless things. “I need to go to the lab.” I whisper. “Lab. Lab!” I free myself from them and run back into the room.
I grab the serum I used earlier and I run down hallways to the lab. I hear their yells after me, but I keep running. I am so happy I made my hallways, suit accessible.
“Alice, suit me up.” Armored ball flies through the air and attaches to me. I zoom through the hallways. Mainly Alice flying me because I’d crash into a wall. I land in the lab and begin working.
