Zoë had no idea how much time had passed since the pain had began, only that it felt like an eternity. She hadn't slept nor ate, she couldn't speak anymore as her throat was raw from screaming. She could only assume she was still alive, instead of in hell for all she had done.

"The results are promising, the serum seems to be taking to her genes at a remarkable rate" one of the doctors noted.

"Do you think it's because of the tesseract?" Another asked.

"We can't be sure, we can only hope she survives and can confirm the data herself" the first doctor replied.

Zoë's consciousness was unpredictable, in fact she could no longer tell whether she was awake or not. It felt as if the serum and the energy the tesseract had awoken in her were attempting to work in tandem, to reveal and unlock the things that she needed, but they just couldn't find the right harmony. They were bouncing off of each other like misfiring neutrons.

Zoë glanced around at the darkness that surrounded her, were her eyes open or closed? She couldn't tell. Was she asleep or alone in a pitch dark room? Suddenly in the distance she could see something. Something green and warm.

"Hello?" She asked, only silence greeted her.

She took steps towards this light, she felt connected to it. Like it was calling out to her, pulling her in with the same invisible tether that called to her from the tesseract. Perhaps it was the tesseract calling to her again. But then why was it green? The most comforting and wonderful emerald green.

"Please, tell me what you are. I'm scared" she begged.

No matter how much she walked, even ran, towards this light she couldn't get any closer. It was toying with her, teasing her.

Before she could try once more to follow it, her eyes flew open. The fluorescent lights in the room burned her glowing blue eyes. "Vögeln" she cursed under her breath as her body adjusted.

"Ah, you're awake!" The doctor observed "How do you feel, Dr Knelbeg?" He asked.

As she focused Zoë could see it was the man she had recognised, she swallowed, her throat dry "Thirsty" she answered horsely.

The man nodded and lifted a glass of water to her lips. The cold liquid felt like life was being breathed into her once more. After she had finished the glass she leant her head back and sighed "Much better, how are my brain scans since the administration of the serum?" She inquired.

The man looked surprised before he regained his composure and grasped the file beside him "T-They're incredible doctor, we've never seen activity like this in an alive subject before" he replied excitedly.

"What do you mean an 'alive subject'?" She asked, attempting to glance at the file.

He held it in front of her and pointed to the scan on the left "This is a human brain just before brain death, you see how every single neurone is lighting up at once?" He asked rhetorically. He then pointed at the scan on the right, it looked almost identical to the first "This is your brain, we have taken multiple scans since and they all show the same thing" he explained.

Zoë shook her head in astonishment "That shouldn't be possible" she combatted.

"And yet here you are!" The sound of Pierce's voice sent uncontrollable anger spiking through Zoë's body. Her eyes turned to the man she loathed and so did every sharp metal instrument in the room.

They dropped to the ground as shock took over her anger. She had done that. "What?" She whispered in disbelief.

Pierce laughed and clapped his hands "Remarkable isn't it?" He beamed, delight shining from him. "Please Dr. Braunstein, free our dear friend. We have a lot of work to do" he ordered.
