It was safe to assume Zoë had gotten used to Loki's face being the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes in the morning. It made her feel safe and happy.

She gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind his ear and felt butterflies shoot to her stomach as a warm smile spread on his lips.

Loki's arms tightened around her and pulled her closer to him so that every inch of her front was touching his "Mine" he mumbled, still evidently half asleep.

Zoë chuckled and nodded "Yours" she confirmed, gently pecking him on the lips. "Will you come to the party with me tomorrow? I don't think I can handle it without you" she admitted.

Loki smiled at her and nodded, opening his eyes "Of course, we just have to avoid my brother" he conditioned.

Zoë nodded again "What happened between you two?" She asked, placing her hand on his cheek.

He sighed and turned his head slightly to kiss her palm "About one thousand years of being treated like a pawn by my so called father while he prepared my brother for the throne. Thor was his pride and joy, his everything. I was nothing to them" he stated bitterly. "They never loved me or cared for me, everyone loved Thor. Odin's golden boy" he added.

Zoë still didn't quite understand, but she did understand that it hurt him. She leaned forward and kissed him "Please tell me what happened before the portal" she begged. She needed to understand. "You don't have to tell me everything, I just need to know what happened" she explained.

Loki looked at her and nodded, there was both fear and hesitation in his eyes but also acceptance. This was something he needed to do for her.

"I have made mistakes in the past, driven by anger and vengeance. Odin lied to me my entire life and I did not handle it well when I found out. I tried to take the throne that I believed was rightfully mine. Thor was banished from Asgard for doing something stupid and reckless and I took that opportunity. I did something I should've have, made an order... Thor stopped it by destroying the bifrost, the bridge that connects Asgard to the nine realms. I fell from that bridge"

"I was thought to be dead, but I wasn't, I was just ashamed. I couldn't go home after what I did, no matter how angry I was or how much I was hurting. It didn't excuse my actions. So I hid, like the coward I am"

Zoë frowned and wrapped her arms around him. Pressing multiple kisses on his face until he finally smiled "You're not a coward" she whispered.

Loki chuckled and shook his head before continuing his story. "I searched every day for a way to fix everything, to set things right but I couldn't think of anything. I couldn't find any answers... That's when he found me. The mad titan. It seems I was quite literally born to be the perfect pawn, a puppet. I think that's why we understand each other so well, pet" he explained with a sad chuckle "we both know all too well what it feels like to be used" he finished.

"He used you to open that portal because you've already been seen as the villain" Zoë concluded.

Loki nodded regretfully "The perfect pawn" he confirmed.

Zoë's heart broke for him, he really wasn't a villain. He wasn't a monster. He was just like her, lied too and used. She closed the distance between them and kissed him with every drop of love she had for the god. "To me you are a king, a god, a hero. My everything" she whispered between kisses.

Loki smiled and kissed her back, he kissed her with so much love and passion and vigour that it left her breathless. "You're the first good thing to happen to me in all my life" he whispered back.

It was then that Zoë discovered one thing she cared about more than science, one thing that gave her a sense of belonging, gave her life meaning. She would show everyone that Loki was not a villain, he deserved a chance to prove himself just as much as she did. She kissed him once more before pulling away and sitting up "Come on, I'm hungry" she said, hopping out of bed.
