Zoë had excused herself to set up her workplace in a separate room while Hill was retrieving Rogers. She needed to get started on preparing for the mission. She heard yelling in the distance and knew they had arrived. She closed her laptop and stood, making her way towards the commotion.
"I wasn't sure who to trust" Fury finished as Zoë approached them.
"Which was the correct response after Pierce" she agreed, glancing at the three new people in the room. She recognised Natasha from her files and nodded "Black Widow is a good addition, but you" she pointed at the man she'd never seen before "you're new, no SHIELD or Hydra files on you. That makes you my favourite"
The man frowned but smiled and Rogers stepped forward "Fury, who is this?" He asked.
Zoë glared at him "Can I take my condition now?" She asked, not moving her eyes from the Red, White and Ballsack boy.
"Go for it, but you'll owe them an explanation after" Nick approved.
She grinned and nodded "Worth it" she said as she stepped forward and punched Captain America as hard as she could in the face. "Jesus Christ! That was a bad idea" she cursed, holding her hand. She looked at Steve holding his nose and the pained look was so satisfying "Nope, no it wasn't I'm gonna do it again" she contradicted before punching him again. A string of German swears left Zoë's mouth and she pulled her right hand to her chest "Sweet mother of god what are you even made out of? Fucking steel?" She asked rhetorically.
"What the fuck was that?!" Romanoff asked, anger and shock barely contained as the doctor worked on her bullet wound.
The unknown man just watched, completely dumbfounded while Fury fought to contain laughter.
"You better have a good explanation" Rogers growled as he stood straight once again. The small amount of blood dripping from his nose was enough to fill Zoë with a satisfaction she'd craved for decades. The break will heal itself in a few hours but she'd still managed it.
She shook off her hand and nodded "That was for my great grandfather" she said smugly.
"Who's your great grandfather?" The unknown man asked.
Zoë looked at him and smiled, stretching her hand out to him "I'm Dr. Zoë Erskine-Knelbeg, it's a pleasure to meet you" she introduced herself.
"Sam Wilson" he replied, shaking her hand.
"Wait Erskine? Your great grandfather was Abe?" Steve asked.
Zoë's face twitched with anger and she had to fight to withhold her powers from lashing out. "You have no right to say his name" she spat back.
Rogers stared at the young woman in shock and Fury finally intervened "Alright that was fun to watch but we've got a lot of information to set straight so can someone help me out of this damn bed?" He asked.
Zoë nodded and with Hill's help, they assisted him into the same room she had set up her work station. "Let's go in timeline order so we can avoid another fistfight. While hilarious, infighting is not what we need right now" Fury commanded.
"Age before beauty" Zoë said, icy glare rested on the toy soldier.
"What is your problem with me? Why did you punch me for your great grandfather?" He asked.
"Ignorance isn't really a good look on you, star spangled simpleton" Zoë began, enjoying the small laughs and smiles she received for her nickname. "You are the last living reason for his death. Everything he worked for, everything he was, all he had, all of it wasted on you and then erased" she growled "my family had nothing because of you!" She finished.
