Part 18 : Jailbreak

Veronica cursed, biting her lip. This wasn't supposed to happened. Her plan was after they off from the zoo they will rented a room in some cheap hotel a bit far away. She planned her steps to be different from what she was like, but not too different till it make her steps quite obvious. But guessed her boss knew her too well. Probably knew her better than herself knew.

That madam surely knew her best till she managed to tracked down the hotel they were stayed in and captured them right there.

Yeah they managed to escaped from the enemy's grasp at the zoo, but that because the boss was not there. Nobody can defeat Matilda. Not even her own brother.

Veronica currently in a cell. Her brother was not with her. And they can't telepathy, not without phones. The guards has taken away her bag. She has nothing. Totally nothing.

But that was what she wanted them to thought.

"Vee."

The scientist snapped her head toward the iron door. The door have a small rectangular with iron bars. But it enough to make out the face.

She squinted her dark blue eyes when she make out the familiar face.

"Kai," her lips twitched to a smirk. "What are you doing here?"

Kai, a man who was the same age as her with dark brown messy hair, bangs covering upper part of his face. It was hard to let people see his eyes. He was wearing a black tank top with a familiar grey coat lab, almost exact like Veronica's.

"What am I doing here?" he clenched his fist "I dunno, perhaps visiting you who betrayed our boss?!" he tried to sounded calm as much as possible. But we can see clearly he was failing.

A clicked tongue can be heard coming from the dark grey hair lady. She rolled her eyes, not looking at him "Sorry not sorry. But I am not letting boss using my things as some sacrifice item!"

Kai pulled his hair frustrated "We talked about this, Vee!" he grunted "You should just let her! You'll be fine after a couple of weeks! But nooooo you must did this!" he shouted and gestured his hands toward her.

Her eyes glared deeply into him "YOU who will be fine. Not ME."

The male stopped from pulling his hair, he looked at her with frowned face "Vee..."

"No! Why couldn't you understand? I'm not letting a drop of blood happen if the cause are from my creations! Look at Vernon, Kai! Look at him! He's no longer a human with kindness I once with. He's like a killing machine!"

The gaze on his face softened. Kai bit his below lip. He knew how much she loved her brother. How can't she? Vernon was the only family she had left.

But Veronica not finished yet "Kai, he's slowly losing his humanity," she lowered her head, staring at the concrete floor with sorrow in her eyes "He can't live peacefully if humanity inside him gone," the sentences cane out almost as bare as a whisper. But the latter caught it.

Kai stared at her, pity and sadness evidence in his eyes. He understood her. In fact, that was both of their dream.

But with this happening, there were no dream to achieve now.

"Vee," he spoked "We could just pretend it never happen."

She shook her head. Slowly raising her head, she stared at him with the most sorrowful eyes. The most that it might will forever burried in his mind.

"Ignoring are one of the way too slowly humanity, Kai," her eyes still gazed through him "Like how your the woman who gave birth to you ignored your cries and wails, leaving you to freeze to death."
