They launched a demo model of the thing they would like to launch into space to clean up all the space junk. We're going to have clean space air that we can't breath or we'll die!

 "8,000 metric tons of debris threaten the loss of services we rely on for Earth-bound life, including weather forecasting, telecommunications and GPS systems." 

Basically, their machine attaches itself to dead satellites and pushes them towards Earth so they burn up in the atmosphere. Scientists are geniuses and I love them so much.
