Happy Cinco De Mayo! Make a taco, eat your weight in chips and salsa, do the tango, have a good time.
On this day in history, Alan Shepherd became the first American in space. Which is okay but the women behind the entire trip are astonishing and nothing short of awe inducing.
If you haven't seen it, I recommend watching Hidden Figures. It's all about Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson and the work they did in getting our men in space. Not only were they women but they were African American women as well who had to fight to get to where they did in the space program.
