No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Wilbur's mind chanted. We came so far. The guards closed in on them, with every second they got closer. Hands grabbed them, multiple arms gripped his limbs. Thrashing fiercely, they fought, there was no way they were going without a fight. The guards started to pull the two apart, and something overcame the siren.
An inhuman scream emitted from his mouth. A wail several decimals above what was humanly possible. The yell carried the weight of years of silence, the power of a desperate kid, just wanting to be free. And all of the guards stopped, in sync. They all stepped back, making a clear way to the entrance. Did I do that? Wilbur stumbled, a sudden weakness overtaking him.
Everything blurred, he was falling, at least he thinks. Niki must have caught him, because no impact came. He was being carried now, Niki was saying something, he couldn't make out what. What is that ringing? What was that? My throat hurts. Is Niki OK?
The edges of his vision were fuzzy, that probably wasn't good. Was he dreaming? Wilbur blinked a couple times, nothing changed. The ringing had turned into more of a whistling, like wind in his ears/fins. Everything hurts. He could see trees, that's what they're called right? It's so green. Niki's running was erratically, he was being jostled around, which did not help his aching... everything.
"Hang in there, Wilbur." Niki panted. Her voice was high pitched, he had never noticed that. Though to be fair whenever they met she had to whisper. They finally stopped, though everything was still spinning. He felt the earth below him, it was wet, slightly warm. Sunlight peeked from behind the canopy of leaves, making him squint.
"Will?" he scrunched his eyes, trying to get them to focus. Bringing his hand up gingerly, he ran it over his face, checking for blood. Nothing. Unsteadily, he rose to a sitting position, holding onto Niki for support.
"Are you OK?" she asked. He shrugged, his vocal cords were practically shredded, everything hurt, and he could barely hear, but he had no way of saying that. Wilbur gestured to her, asking the same question back. "I'm fine." she paused, "If you're up to it, we should probably keep going, we are still pretty close to the facility." Wilbur nodded hesitantly. Swaying slightly, he got up. Holding onto a tree for support, they went on their way. Two teen hybrid runaways, trying to figure out where the heck they are.
Hi again, I spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out what I should call this chapter XD. Anyways, hope you have an amazing day/night, 'till next time, bye!
