EIGHTTEEN

CUTTING DOWN WOOD wasn't as easy as she thought it'd be. So when a local resident of Springvale was dismantling an old coop, she asked if he was going to use the remaining wood, to which he shook his head. The man helped her carry the long, thin logs, placing them behind the house she had come to call home. Back and forth they went, and not long after, Razor had joined the two before the man had other matters to attend to.

The wolf boy watched as she sawed the logs in half, and when he asked where she had gotten the tool from, she told him she finally mustered up the courage to ask the residents of the nearby village for things she needed.

Razor helped her dig up the old fence in the back, all while she pounded against the block cuts in the halved logs with a hammer and pick. By then the sun had reached its peak, the two stopping for a breather. Then after a few minutes, went back to cutting more logs, ones that would fit in the gaps she made to the others.

With the newly dug holes the boy had made, she placed the first log inside, filling the surrounding area with dirt to keep it steady. The two continued around the perimeter, filling the deep holes with the logs then filling them in again.

"Are you hungry?" (Y/n) asked him as the boy stomped his foot against the dirt, hardening it around the final wooden post.

"...Not much," He replied.

(Y/n) took the opportunity to look around, proud of all the hard work crossed off her list.

"I'm glad the back of the house is surrounded by trees and thick bushes," She motioned towards the view. "It makes me feel a bit more at ease."

Razor followed her with his eyes as she treaded towards the middle of the empty clearing, her hands thrown to the air. She then spun around to face him, a smile plastered to her face. "You think one day I'll build an archway in the middle as a pathway?" She motioned to the sky. "It'd look nice!"

The wolf boy subtly shook his head alongside a timid smile. "...You plan too fast," He joked.

A few fingertips made their way to rest over her lips as she suppressed a giggle. "I do, don't I?"

(Y/n) then placed her hands on her hips, her eyes staring at the remaining pieces. "Let's finish this up so I can make us something to eat inside."

Razor then helped her lift a log in between two others, fitting it into the carved spaces she had made earlier, leaving space inside to fit the next one they'd place. Razor held the log in place as she placed a nail above the area, gently pounding it down into place.

The two continued for a while, nailing one down on both sides on top then placing another onto the depressions below it, the appearance of a wooden fence taking form.

(Y/n) let the hammer fall from her hand, massaging her wrist as Razor straightened out his back.

"...You know much," He said.

"Hm?" She glanced over at him, shaking her hand as if it would ease the pain in her fingers.

The boy motioned towards the fence. "...This things," He explained.

"Oh!" Her (e/c) eyes widened. "Well, I wouldn't say I know much," She was honest. "Although there's similarities, this is very different from what I'm used to seeing back home."

"...Home?" Razor repeated in hopes she'd explain further.

The girl remained nonchalant. "Yeah. Home," She said.

But before Razor could ask again, a voice called from behind the two.

"(Y/n)! Razor!"
