FIFTY THREE
DILUC

THE GALES OF Mondstadt were restless. And on days like these, the winds made their voice known. Diluc Ragnvindr stared up into the sky. His eyes glossed over the grand branches of the enormous tree in Windrise. Sunlight filtered through the heavy leaves, cascading through the empty space and onto his face.

It was calm. He was calm.

Escaping the bustling city was necessary sometimes. All the chatter, the noise, it could overwhelm you.

Sure Diluc was used to it. Having lived there his whole life, it was only natural. But his escape from Mondstadt came at different reasons.

First and foremost, he needed a clear mind from the past. Every now and then, the thoughts and images couldn't help but resurface. And when they became too much to bear, a lone place such as this was the answer to his problem. He could think as much as he wanted to about it. And if his expression were to change from the usual nonchalant attitude, no one could comment, for they could not see it.

As for the second thing that had been on his mind, it was none other than (Y/n).

It was silly to think that of all chances he could've stumbled upon, it was growing fond of her with every day the two spent together.

It'd gotten to the point where he wondered, in the midst of bartending, what exactly she was doing at the moment. His curiosity was, of course, innocent. But the thoughts sometimes would stick longer than he'd anticipated.

Being with her was like a breath of fresh air. She could always somehow brighten his days in spite of the things that had soured it.

Suddenly, Diluc was snapped out of his thoughts momentarily as a bird passed by. The sound of its feathers filled the silence, right up until it flew further away. He watched its figure soar into the branches, only then allowing a subtle smile form across his face.

But it soon disappeared when he became alert at the sound of twigs snapping from behind. He turned his head around, looking right over his shoulder.

"(Y/n)?" He asked when her figure was immediately recognized by his eyes.

She stared back at him. "Oh, Diluc," Her lips curved upward. "I didn't expect to find you here."

The man turned his body completely to face her. "I could say the same thing," He said. "What brings you all the way out here? That is, if you don't mind me asking..."

(Y/n) averted her gaze briefly. "I just needed some fresh air," She said. "Getting away from everything once in a while isn't such a bad thing in my opinion."

To her words, Diluc understood. "Agreed," He said.

He cast his gaze back towards the scenery, submerging himself once again in the fleeting feeling. (Y/n) took a few steps nearer, watching as he relaxed.

Now standing beside him, she asked, "Are you escaping something too?"

Opening his closed eyes, Diluc glanced over at her. "Mondstadt," The word sounded so simple. "It's like you said. It doesn't hurt to get away for a little bit. Even more so when you can afford the time."
