FIFTY THREE
KAEYA

THE GALES OF Mondstadt were restless. And even as perceptive as he was, the Cavalry Captain himself couldn't catch wind of why. Kaeya currently walked through the empty halls. He tossed a coin he held in his hand upwards, catching it and repeating the entire thing over and over again. The sound echoed, and the nearby glass windows painted stripes over his figure as he passed through.

It'd been a slow day. And there wasn't a single thing to do. He thought about entertaining himself with a few names from a list of suspected troublemakers, but he didn't really feel up to it at the moment.

"I really hate this job..." He'd mumbled this to himself quite a few times already.

Without much thought, he'd somehow found himself turning into the hall where the archives were. (Y/n) immediately came to mind, beckoning the ends of his lips to curve upward. The thought alone reminded him he hadn't seen her at all throughout the day. And so, shrugging off his frustrations, he decided to pay (Y/n) a visit.

Stashing the coin back in his pant's pocket, he casually made his way towards the door. There was this anticipation that grew with each step. And it only felt stronger the second he set foot inside.

"(Y/n)~" He called out her name rather endearingly. His eyes glossed over the tall shelves.

The man then rounded the corner, his eyes met with the sight of (Y/n) with her head between her arms. She rested her cheek against them, they who were flat and crossed against the desk below her.

She looked as if she were exhausted.

As Kaeya strolled closer towards her, he wore this grin on his lips. "Someone stayed up late," He teased.

But (Y/n) hardly moved an inch, thus immediately causing both his tone and expression to change appropriately.

With a hand, Kaeya pulled a nearby stool next to her desk. "Are you alright?" He asked as he sat down.

Without moving her head, she glanced over at him. "I don't feel so well," She said. Her voice was rather weak.

Kaeya reached towards her hair, lifting it away from her face. "A bit under the weather then?" He touched her forehead. "I suppose you are a bit warmer than you normally should be."

(Y/n) shook her head as he retreated his hand. "I feel tense," She said. "Worried. Anxious. You name it."

This made him greatly concerned. "If you haven't been feeling like yourself, you should've taken the day off," He said. "I'm sure someone else could've taken over for the day."

(Y/n)'s lashes obscured her eyes as they glanced down. "I'm talking about my situation," She sighed. "This job is probably the only thing keeping me from thinking of it most of the time."

Kaeya's eyes softened. The two hadn't spoken about matters regarding it as of lately. "...Would you like to discuss it?" He asked.

"I'm not sure..." She sounded so down. "In truth, I don't know how to feel right now. I could use some company."

Her tone made his heart ache. And he chose to take it the wrong way.
