Chapter 4

It's been a few days since that weird incident between Loki and myself. Every time I've seen him since he's shot me a sexy smirk, but his smirking and antics no longer anger me. Instead I get a weird twisty feeling in my gut.

So I've been avoiding him. I don't deal well with new things.

"You okay Cass?"
My brother asked from across the kitchen table.

"Huh what?"
I responded as his voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

"You seem distracted, everything okay?"

"Y-yeah everything's fine."
I smiled.

He just raised and eyebrow at me.
"Did you really just try and lie to your own brother?"

"Sorry, I guess I'm still getting used to all the new stuff."

"It is a bit daunting isn't it?"
Rogers responded as he walked into the kitchen.
"When I first woke up I had no idea what to make of it. Life used to be so much simpler. I'm still getting used to it."

"You can say that again."
I sighed.
"I just feel like I won't ever be able to fully understand this world you know? It's so strange and the people are so different."

"You'll get used to it eventually Cass, took me a long time."
Rogers smiled as he sat with us at the table.

"Hey Steve."
I smiled.

"Everything okay?"
Bucky questioned him.

"For now yes, everything seems quiet which is honestly more worrying than everything."

"Guessing you guys don't do quiet?"
I laughed a little.

"It's concerning. Every time there's a quiet break something bad always tends to rear its head and it's never good."
He sighed.
"But with both you and Wanda on our side I'm confident things won't be as bad."
I smiled at him, he's cooled down a lot lately which is great for me.

"How has your training been coming along anyway?"
Bucky asked me.

My heart jumped as I remembered what happened with Loki.
"Uh, it's been good actually. Who knew sparring with Gods would be so great for your physical health?"
I accidentally laughed nervously and hoped neither of them picked up on it.

"And your powers?"
Steve asked.

"Getting easier and easier to use. But I still haven't noticed any different wavelengths appearing, so maybe the scientists were wrong about Gravity and Magnetism."

"I'm sure you'll get the hang of it eventually."
Steve smiled.
"By the way, Peter was looking for you. He's in the living room."

"Shit! I forgot I was suppose to chill with him today. He's got some new comics to show me."
I jumped up off my seat and made a beeline for the living room.

"Language!"
Steve called after me.

"English!"
I called back and laughed.

"Hey Miss Barnes!"
Peter excitedly called as he saw me walk in.

"Please call me Cassandra, Miss Barnes is way too formal."
I smiled and sat opposite him, noticing piles of comics strewn across the table.

"Sorry!"
He quickly responded.

"There's no need, there's nothing wrong with being polite."
I grinned back.
"Now are you going to educate me in comics?"

Peter's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree as he excitedly started talking about his favourite comics, showing me his favorite scenes and even stumbling over his words a bit.

It was nice to chill with someone a little less serious, it was kinda like having a little brother and I loved it.

....

A few more days had passed and I was slowly starting to chill out with things. Loki seems to have gone back to his normal, cold self and any sparring we did was completely normal.

So it was just a blip? Good. I don't need that kind of drama right now.

"Hey Thor"
Nat said and we all looked away from the TV to see Thor entering the room with Loki.

"Wow, look who decided to join the land of the living."
I grinned.

"Tsk."
Was the only response I got from Loki.

"How was your time with Jane?"
Wanda grinned.

"Wonderful!"
Thor bellowed and moved to sit with us all on the couch.
"Come Loki, sit and have fun!"

"If sitting silently watching moving pictures on a screen is considered fun, I want no part in it."
He said coldly and headed to the kitchen, grabbed something out of the fridge then left.

"What's crawled up his ass?"
I asked.

"He's always like that."
Tony replied.
"Just ignore him like I do and your life will be infinitely better."

"Why is he still here anyway? Shouldn't he be taken back to Agard?"
Wanda asked.

"Odin decreed that he stay on Earth under the Avengers to learn to behave. One slip and he gets dragged to the cells of Asgard."
Thor replied before taking a sip from his flask.

"So he's our responsibility? Wonderful."
You could hear the sarcasm dripping out of Tony's voice.

"What's in that flask?"
I asked.

I heard oooo's come from around the room.

"The finest Asgardian ale!"
Thor bellowed proudly.

"You should try it, it's wonderful."
Tony grinned.

"Tony!"
Nat shouted and punched his arm.

"Alright then. Give me some. I love a challenge."
I grinned.
"How about we make it fun? If I don't react how you expect Tony, you give me enough money to buy absolutely anything I want."

"Oh no."
Was all Bucky said before putting his head in his hands, with Steve doing the same.

"Something we're missing?"
Nat asked as Thor poured some of the liquid into a glass.

"If she's the same as she was before Hydra just wait."
My brother sighed and it made me grin.

"I'll take that bet."
Tony smiled.
"I've never wrong."

Thor handed me a glass while Bucky and Steve just sighed again.
"Cheers! Tiny human!"
He laughed and drank from his glass while I drank the shots worth of alcohol.

It burned and was quite reminiscent of Absinthe. I coughed slightly.

"Ahhh, burns like a good beverage should!"
I grinned and Thor and slammed my glass down on the table.

"I like this one!"
Thor laughed.

Everyone except Thor, Bucky and Steve looked at me completely confused and surprised.

"How is that possible? That stuff is basically pure alcohol!"
Tony sounded so shocked and it made me laugh.

"She used to outdrink every man in the army we ever met."
Bucky smiled.

"I once watched her drink a trio of shots without making a face. Sambuca, Tequila and even Absinthe."
The memory Steve brought up made me smile.

"I remember that night, I had to basically carry Bucky home!"
I laughed and it caused everyone to follow suite, especially Thor.
"It was fun though, and I basically turned it into a job. You would not believe the amount of men who would bet money that they could drink me under the table."

"Hah! She could go head to head with Valkyrie!"
Thor bellowed in amusement.

"I'll to try that sometime."
I grinned.

The conversation ended and we all turned back to the screen to finish watching the film. I'm still getting used to the size of the televisions.

I'm actually really enjoying life with the Avengers.
