It was a Monday evening when Mark received a Twitter notification from SM entertainment revealing their latest idol. Being eager to procrastinate working on his university degree for a bit longer, the tired student immediately opened the app and skim read the information. Perhaps he dropped his phone from shock - this man was stunning. After taking a quick breather, Mark shakily picked up his phone again and continued to gawk at the photo, drinking in all of the features and memorising them - as if by some cruel twist of fate, it would disappear. There was only one picture but Mark was confident that he would never see someone who is more attractive than the angel currently on his screen.

Welcoming our newest artist Nakamoto Yuta. More details to be released soon.
Even his name sounded hot. That's not even close to being fair - here he was on a Monday evening, hiding from the responsibilities that came with being an adult, looking like he just crawled out of a sewer (morning classes are evil but the heavy rain that started on his walk home only made things worse) while Nakamoto Yuta looked like he was about to change the world with his face.
If his music was half as good as his physical appearance, then Mark was ready to get on his knees. Who was he kidding, Mark was already on his knees for Yuta.
Over the next week, Mark obsessively checked his phone for Twitter notifications, afraid that he'd miss something. He also decided to not put his phone on silent - he wanted to be one of the first people to see the next tweet about Yuta - this led to his phone going off in some of his lectures but Mark couldn't find in himself to care enough in order to be embarrassed. Honestly, he was more upset when he realised that it wasn't SM than when his teacher reprimanded him.
After the near constant daydreaming, Mark's anticipation was almost crippling by the time SM did tweet about Yuta.

Yuta is the latest addition to the label. He will be performing as a singer and his new single 'Love Story' will be released 4pm KST on February 14th.
Huh, on Valentine's day. This didn't really bother the Canadian as he didn't exactly have a partner to spend the holiday with (other than his take out and frozen food) - he could just dedicate it to what he was sure would be a masterpiece instead.
A few days later
Mark may be a little,, , obsessed. No matter what he did, in the two weeks leading up to Yuta's official debut, he couldn't relax. He was so on edge, he could barely focus on his writing degree - opting instead to get everything done as quickly as possible. An introduction was released on Youtube and Mark made a point to watch it religiously.
Yuta wasn't getting promoted enough, Mark noticed. He'd hoped that since Yuta is new, SM would release more content on Yuta to help gain fans, but that didn't seem to be the case. Instead, they chose to promote Haechan, who debuted over a year ago and already had a cult following, he didn't need more (in Mark's opinion). It wasn't like he hated Haechan or anything, quite the opposite - he was so talented and liked his music, but Mark just wanted to focus on Yuta and disagreed with just about every one of SM's marketing decisions.
Haechan wasn't even promoting an album-
So maybe Mark was already bitter. To make things worse, Yuta had an Instagram account, and even after his teaser video (a blessing) of him singing a few notes from his upcoming single, he only had just over 1,000 followers. The injustices Yuta is facing-
Upset, the boy sniffled, Yuta just has such a beautiful singing voice that he didn't feel that there was much else to do other than cry. Did that make him a simp? Maybe. Not that it mattered much to Mark, he'd take the label of Yuta's simp any day- it just shows he has taste.
His phone buzzed and Mark fell off the sofa, hoping that SM posted something about YutaMark rolled his eyes again, Haechan had over 9,000,000 followers. He checked often, not that he should (it causes him more pain if anything), and felt more anger towards SM's less than average skills in marketing each time he did. Frustration was building up - there wasn't much he could do, as he didn't have a large social media presence, so telling his followers to support yuta wouldn't even make a dent in comparison to Haechan's millions.
What if Mark increased his following? What if he became an idol himself? If things went well, then he'd probably even get to meet Yuta,, , there didn't seem to be a harm in trying. Mark was going to finish his creative writing degree in a few months anyway (he only had finals and his final essay to hand in before he was finally free) and could totally write his own lyrics as well.
Mark was a man who had many passions but with not much direction. He loves anything to do with music, writing, watermelon, ice cream, badminton, the little things that bring him joy and most recently, Nakamoto Yuta. At 18 years old, he'd barely managed to pick a university course, choosing to settle with creative writing (vaguely thinking of a career as an author). Now that he was 20 years old and nearing the end of his time in formal education, Mark found himself filled with a little bit of regret - he questioned whether he even wanted to be an author anymore. His answer was no.
Finding sanctuary in creating music, he always felt more connected to people when he was singing (occasionally rapping). He could also express himself better with his voice, rather than words on a page. Perhaps writing wasn't suited for him. Mark is also a huge extrovert and can't stand it when he has to be alone writing things for credit. Yeah, not suited for writing at all apparently.
Mind made up, Mark nervously entered his information in order to audition at Pledis Entertainment. Obviously Mark couldn't join SM. Firstly, he'd probably meet the same fate as his future husband - getting swallowed by Haechan, which would suck because he was trying to get noticed. Secondly, he didn't want to meet his idol until Mark felt like he'd done something Yuta could be proud of. Finally, it would be awkward to promote Yuta obsessively if they saw each other all the time. The very thought made him shiver a little.
He briefly considered chickening out (things would be much easier that way), but continued because despite his anxiety and lack of security in success, he was excited. Possibly meeting Yuta and sharing his creativity with the world would be a dream come true.
