He told me that there was no one he was interested in and suddenly, this girl comes out of nowhere and he’s head over heels in love with her. He was my friend first. I loved him first. I could clearly remember the first week we came back to Hogwarts this year, everything was ruined.
I watched as some girl bumped into Oliver, she belonged to my house; I never spoke to her in my life but I have seen her around the common room, she wasn’t much of a talker. I watched as Oliver walked away, I didn’t think much of it till I approached him.
“I was wondering when I was going to see you again.” I said as I stood by his side and nudged his arm.
He looked as if he was in a trance. I nudged him harder until he realized I was standing beside; he gave a gentle smile and laughed.
“You can’t say “Hi” like normal girls?” He said.
“You should know I’m not a normal girl.”
“Yeah, I know.” He laughed as we continued to walk up the stairs.
“That’s what you love about me!” I teased him.
He laughed and shook his head “I like the way you teased.” He never took me seriously but I fell for him since last year and every day my feelings for him grow stronger.
“I like the way you talk.” I laughed.
I still couldn’t help but notice that he was still dazed and it was starting to get on my nerves, I asked him what was wrong and suddenly, a smile appeared on his face.
“What can you tell me about Ariella?”
“Who’s that?” I said with cautious.
“She’s in your house; I just met her a few minutes ago.” He said
“Well, I don’t really know her considering I don’t even know her name but I have seen her around. Why?”
I didn’t like the look on his face, it seemed dream-like, and it wasn’t for me. Suddenly, Oliver stopped in his tracks and looked at me.
“Ambrosia, do you think you can try to talk to her for me?”
“I hardly know her and do you know how random that would be?” I forced a laugh when the conversation that we shared wasn’t the least bit amusing. “Are you interested in her?” I questioned him.
He smiled which spoke for himself.
“You hardly know her and you’re interested in her?” I said surprised.
Suddenly, Robbie came walking down the steps and wondered why Oliver was taking so long; when he looked at me, he laughed and mispronounced my name for the billionth time. I knew Robbie meant well but I wasn’t in the mood for humor.
“Dude, what the hell?” Robbie said as he gently backhanded Oliver’s shoulder.
“Sorry, I got caught up.” Oliver couldn’t help but smile and with that smile, Robbie knew what was on his mind.
Robbie asked Oliver for the details as they stood in front of me, as much I wanted to hear what he had to say, it was painful for me to listen.
“Well, I don’t know how I feel about her but the way she was so shy when she bumped into me, I found it adorable. I think she’s a Third year student by the way I saw Harry approach her when I left. Her eyes are a brilliant shade of green, almost emerald like. Well, when I got the chance to look at them.” Oliver explained to the both of us.
“So, what are you going to do?” Robbie asked.
I looked at him with daggers, I always had a feeling he knew how I felt towards Oliver and he used any chance he got to tease me.
“I don’t know. Should I go for her?” Oliver asked unsure but the tone in his voice asked for encouragement to pursue her.
I couldn’t help but feel my heart drop to the pit of my stomach and dissolve from the acids. Every word that he says is a dagger in me. That day we told him to do what he felt was best as good friends, although, I’ve hinted how weird it would be for her if a Seventh year asked her out but if he asked me, I’d be his.
A week later I found out Robbie encouraged him to write a note to her and that they met at Hogsmeade; I sat there as Oliver went into detail. I tried my best to put a smile on my face but I couldn’t help but see my world fall apart in front of my eyes. I also noticed on my way to class they would talk in the morning, Oliver would defend her, the way he smiled whenever he was around her and then one day, a week ago; he told us that he liked her; he truly had feelings for her.
“You asked her out!?”
“Yeah, she actually said yes. Rob, I really don’t know but I’m just so happy right now!” Oliver said as he jumped over a stone bridge as the three of us walked over to a tree in the courtyard.
“Are you going to ask her to be your girlfriend?” Robbie asked.
He was never mine to lose and it hurts knowing that these are words he’ll never say to me. Here I am, in love with one of my closest friends watching him fall in love with another girl. I guess I should have met him when I wasn’t some first year in his eyes, then maybe, things would have been different for us.
