My first night was a disaster. I cried myself to sleep in the Gryffindor common room. Not even bothering to go upstairs to bed. I didn't even change out of my robes. When I woke up in the morning. A particular black haired, scar faced boy was looking at me curiously.
"Potter." I said coldly
"I'm sorry I don't believe we have met yet. See I had to come to school in a flying car with Ron because when we tried to get to platform 9 3/4 the barrier had sealed itself off and we-"
I cut his rambling off,
"I'm Malfoy, Y/N Malfoy."  I sneered
"Oh- I didn't- But your in-"
"Gryffindor. Trust me I know. I'm not happy about it either. Plus everyone already has a prejudice against me and they don't even know me. I don't understand why everyone keeps saying my brother is bad, and I just know I'm going to get lost today." I was ranting to him and holding back tears. I didn't even know why I was talking to him.
"What's your first class? I can show you around if you would like." he said smiling kindly.
"But- but I'm a Malfoy."
"I'm going to assume you aren't your brother."
"Well no but-"
"Then I'll show you around."
"Thank you so much." before I realized what I was doing I gave him a hug, he hugged me back.  When I realized what I had done I pulled away quickly.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I was just so relieved that somebody was actually talking to me and-" I heard a small noise come from the stairs and realized much too late that I was still holding Harry's hand. I pulled my hand away quickly and turned around just in time to see Ginny's bright red hair whip up the stairs.
"Erm." Harry chuckled embarrassed "You better go change your robes and wash up a little so we can go to breakfast. Let me see your schedule." I handed him my schedule from the table where I had thrown it the night before.
"I'll be down in a sec." I said skipping up the stairs. I was actually kind of excited for today. Then a thought came to me. What if Draco sees me in the halls with Harry?  Well I guess he'll just have to deal with it. Their rivalry shouldn't get in the way of me having friends. I finished getting ready hurriedly and went back downstairs. Harry was waiting for me along with a not very happy Hermione and a very confused red headed boy who I assumed could only be Ron Weasley.
"Hi again Y/N." Harry smiled gently at me. I smiled back. I turned and looked at Hermione.
"I'm sorry for the things I said yesterday. I was upset about not being in Slytherin and I was confused and stressed and worried."
"It's okay," she said and she even smiled a little. I could tell by her face that she hadn't told Ron anything.
"Let's go to breakfast. I'm starving." Said Ron. Who, according to Dray, never stopped eating. We went downstairs to the great hall and it was extremely helpful to have the three older students helping me out. When we got there everyone was watching us as we came in. I didn't know if it was because of Harry, or because of me. When we sat down a round-faced boy looked up and said,
"Mail's due any minute — I think Gran's sending a few things I forgot."
Sure enough we all had only just started eating breakfast when the owls came soaring in. A great big horned owl soared in and crashed onto the table right in front of me.
"Eroll!" said Ron. We all noticed at around the same time that the owl had something attached to his foot.
"Oh Ron!" I gasped
"You'd better open it." the round face boy said
Ron opened it with shaking hands.
"—STEALING THE CAR, I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SURPRISED IF THEY'D EXPELLED YOU, YOU WAIT TILL I GET HOLD OF YOU, I DON'T SUPPOSE YOU STOPPED TO THINK WHAT YOUR FATHER AND I WENT THROUGH WHEN WE SAW IT WAS GONE —"  Ron's mum's voice came through the envelope so loudly that a few specks of dust landed in my food from the ceiling.   "—LETTER FROM DUMBLEDORE LAST NIGHT, I THOUGHT YOUR FATHER WOULD DIE OF SHAME, WE DIDN'T BRING YOU UP TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS, YOU AND HARRY COULD BOTH HAVE DIED ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED — YOUR FATHER'S FACING AN INQUIRY AT WORK, IT'S ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT AND IF YOU PUT ANOTHER TOE OUT OF LINE WE'LL BRING YOU STRAIGHT BACK HOME."
The entire hall went silent and everyone was staring at Ron. I started chuckling a little until a look from Hermione silenced me. She then turned to him and said;
"Well, I don't know what you expected, Ron, but you —"
"Don't tell me I deserved it," snapped Ron. I leaned over to Harry.
"Are they like this all the time?"
"Yup" he leaned towards me and whispered back. His breath tickled my ear and I blushed.
"Y/N!" I heard Draco yell
"Oh crap." I said
"Pottah, are you bothering my sister?" he growled low in his throat
"Dray-" I said with the same warning in my voice as I had on the bus. I was praying that the blush on my cheeks had gone away.
"Are. You. Bothering. Her?" Draco said slowly, barely sparing me a glance
"Draco Lucius Malfoy. If you don't leave him alone right now I'm telling everyone what you said over the summer, but I'm not going to stop there, no I'm going to write home to Mother and tell her that you've been a jerk. Now leave us alone." I could start seeing the hurt in his eyes so I softened my voice. "Dray I want to have friends and I can't do that if you rip their heads off every time I make one." he looked at me, the hurt blatantly filling his eyes.
"Fine, Y/N. Have fun with blood traitor Weaslbee, Perfect Pottah, and the Mudblood."
"DRACO MALFOY!" I screamed while drawing my wand. To my right I saw Harry lift his wand and my left Ron lifted his. The red headed twins stood up behind me and lifted theirs as well.
"Leave Draco." I said tears filling my eyes
"Y/N/N." Draco said pleading with me
"LEAVE" I said forcefully and I turned my back on him. Sobbing quietly.
