I glanced up to see who wanted my attention and it became apparent that Luke Hemmings was standing right in front of me. My breath hitched in my throat; I had never been so close to him before. Now that I was I could understand why all the girls swooned over him, including my sister who had the biggest crush on another boy yet still managed to find it in her to go boy hunting at the mall. His height astounded me as my eyes took him in.
“Hey partner!” He greeted me cheerfully, smiling down at my small frame.
“Hi,” I squeaked, shuffling awkwardly.
“So I was thinking, I could do some research tonight and you can do some whenever you want and then on Friday we can meet up and swap notes. Ultimately, leading to us creating a power point about our topic?” He explained, never taking his gaze off of me despite the chaos going on around us.
“S-sure…” I mumbled, not sure on how to respond, making his grin even wider. He was adorable. I looked around us and saw that many girls were glaring at me enviously. Oops.
“It’s a date!” He said jokingly, bumping his hip against mine.
Breathe Marnie, don’t forget to breathe.
“Whose house?” I managed to say.
“We can go to mine if you want?” He suggested, gesturing towards his own lanky self. “Unless you’d rather do it at yours.”
“That’s fine. I just-uh, need to know your address,” I felt my cheeks getting hot.
What the hell Marnie? This is how I expected my sister to react, not me.
“Tell me your number and I’ll text you my address.”
I recited my phone number to him while he nimbly added me as a contact with a cute tongue face next to my name. He continued tapping away at his phone while he typed his address to me. By this time the noisy corridor had quietened as people had escaped from their classes for the day. My phone vibrated in my pocket signalling I had a text. The number was unknown and contained the name of a house, meaning it was Luke.
“Thanks,” I smiled up at him, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear as I added him as a contact with a turtle emoji.
“No problem. Cool shirt by the way,” He spoke smoothly, his Australian accent shining through every every word.
“Oh, thanks. I didn’t have much time to get ready today as I woke up later than usual, so I just threw whatever I could find first on so I wouldn’t be late for school,” I pulled at the hem of my red and black checked shirt, gulping.
“It looks good on you. I have one just like that but slightly bigger,” He chuckled and I laughed along with him. “It’s getting too small for me now though…” He trailed off as if in thought. His eyes lit up as he came up with an idea. “You can have it if it fits you! Only if you want it though." He added rapidly.
I grinned at his kind and thoughtful gesture. Just as I was about to reply my phone started ringing. The caller ID read ‘Macy’. I held a finger up to Luke who nodded in understanding.
“Hey Macy,” I answered casually.
“Where the heck are you? I’ve been waiting here for like fifteen minutes,” She yelled down the phone, I took the phone away from my ear due to the volume of her screeching voice.
“Oh, right… sorry. I’ll explain in a minute. See you soon,” I replied before hanging up. Luke raised his eyebrows as if urging me to tell him who was on the phone.
“Sorry that was my sister, Macy, you probably know her, looks just like me but girly and somehow prettier. She’s waiting to take me home. I really have to go. Sorry,” I apologised before waving and making my way out of the school entrance.
“Bye Marn, see you on Friday!” Luke called after me. The use of my nickname made me smile and a blush crept on to my cheeks.

“So let me just check that I’ve got this right…” Macy gaped. “You are going round Luke Hemmings, sex God of the centuries’ house?” She exclaimed, still looking at me with disbelief even though I had repeated myself multiple times.
“Yes Macy,” I rolled my eyes at her wording.
“Oh my gosh, I am so jealous!” She squealed in excitement for me even though there was a hint of sadness in her crystal blue eyes at the fact that she didn’t take history and she wasn’t in my position.
“That’s a sentence I never expected to hear from you…” I trailed off climbing out of the car quickly as soon as she’d parked.
Macy came rushing after me once she had locked the car and pulled on my arm gently.
“What do you mean?” She gave me a confused look and still even then managed to look prettier than I ever could.
“It’s nothing Mace,” I shrugged her off before running inside and up the stairs to my room. She didn’t come after me and I wasn’t even disappointed because I didn’t expect her to.
As I was just lounging around in my room listening to some Fall Out Boy, I did not expect to see a certain blonde boy with extremely long legs and a cheeky grin open my door slowly and lean against the door frame. I looked up from my phone and when I caught sight of Luke I fell straight off the left side of my bed from the shock. Smooth Marnie, smooth.
